This was our first visit to the Royal Philharmonic, we had booked many months in advance to see Mike Oldfields Tubular Bells. The venue is quiet stunning and its built for sound so you can be assured of the best acoustics possible. Outside is reminiscent of the old 1920's picture houses, all aglow with bright lights, looks incredible at night. We had no wait at the entrance, simply scanned our tickets and a security check and we were in, the bar and box office were bustling with people, so we headed straight to our seats, I would highly recommend getting a seat in the boxes, its worth the extra cost not to be crammed in and not have the pain of your whole row stand up if you need the toilet. Inside is just as impressive as outside, and I was surprised and please to see how clean and fresh everything looked, no litter or stains etc, nothing looked warn out, quiet impressive for an old venue. Beware the phone users amongst you, staff are constantly watching the audience and if they see the illumination of your phone during the performance you will be asked to put it away. Overall it was an excellent experience abide for two things: 1. On our way out a old couple had fallen down the stairs and were on the floor, a crowd had gathered but when I looked over to see where the staff were busy chatting and laughing seemingly oblivious to the incident, before I could go over to tell them, they had finally 'woken up' and were on the way to assist, I would have thought staff should be far more alert for incidents like these, particularly having more older cliental, kind of embarrassing when the public are handling an emergency with no staff to be seen. 2. again on the way out there was a stand were the act had merchandise for sale, well it was chaos, pushing, shoving, skipping the queue, no order or control at all, staff really should be on hand to manage this, to get people into an orderly line, twice my elderly disabled mother was nearly knocked over by people with no...
Read moreWe went last night to see Holly Johnson who have a superb performance, that's why the review is 5 stars.for this performance I would give the the venue 0 stars if I could. We were in the upper tier on the left hand side, but the evening was spoilt for me by the two people sitting a couple of rows in front. Before the show started, it was announced repeatedly that recording was not allowed. Don't get me wrong, I know this policy is impossible to enforce. However as soon as the house lights went down two people on the back row of the lower tier stood up, held the phones up high and started videoing. They were right in the way, totally blocking the view of the center of the stage. I looked to the side and saw a steward standing there, I thought oh it's ok he'll be right over to tell them to sit down. Usually the staff here are really vigilant. The performance had started and he still just stood at the side then, somehow he discovered that he had regained the use of his legs, and started towards them......and walked right past them. He must have been so overcome by his new found ability to walk that he couldn't stop! He then turned around, walked right past then again, and went back to the side where he lost all use of his legs again for the rest of the show. Thankfully most of the show, the crowd were all on their feet, but every single time a slow song can't along we sat down, only to have these two left standing, phones in hand. Can you please send the guy you had working there last night to have his legs looked at, so that he retains the ability to walk when he's working. I'd have his eye sight checked too...
Read moreTerribly treated by staff was told to sit down each and every time I got up to dance. The concert was brilliant what I got to see of it as after being told to sit down so many times I ended up trying to get on the stage to dance but was dragged off by a staff member and told I would be arrested for getting on stage moved outside the concert and refused to be let back in. I've never had to ask to enjoy myself at a concert but felt like a naughty school boy standing up in class I'm 41 not 4. My two sons and daughter was left inside the concert in the front row where we had been sitting. My daughter destraught not knowing what had happened in the end came out looking what had happened to me. Why have concerts here if your going to have dance police who will ask time and time again to sit down I was told after I was escorted out everyone got up to dance and others got on the stage. I have been to see this group in Dublin and all over England and never before told to sit down and be quiet and told I won't be told again but taken out of the venue. I sent a full complaint and have heard nothing back at all after buying 4 front row Tickets months before the actual concert. Don't go here if you want to dance it's frowned upon at music concerts. The heavy handedness of the staff is awful and I will never take myself or my family here again. I'm from liverpool and always thought liverpool was a place you could enjoy yourself and dance Not At The...
