Her team reflects her energy and attention to detail – friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to make your visit special. It’s rare to see a manager so involved and hands-on, and it makes a noticeable difference to the overall experience.

The restaurant itself is spotlessly clean, modern yet cosy, and very family-friendly. Whether you’re dining solo, on a date, or bringing the whole family along, there’s a perfect spot for everyone. The layout offers both privacy and a sense of community – you feel relaxed from the moment you’re seated.

Now, the food… absolutely fantastic. The menu caters to all tastes – from the classic Margherita done to perfection, to more adventurous options like the Pollo Forza or the Vegan Giardiniera. The quality of the ingredients really shines through. Every pizza we had was cooked beautifully, with that perfect crispy base and rich, flavourful toppings. Even the dough balls, a Pizza Express staple, were somehow even better here – fresh, warm, and served with the ideal amount of garlic butter.

Special mention must go to the desserts – we had the chocolate fudge cake and the tiramisu, and they were both divine. Rich, indulgent, and presented like something you’d expect in a far more expensive establishment.

But beyond the food and the venue, what really stood out to us was the service. Siobhan and her team run a tight ship – orders came quickly, special requests were no problem, and we felt genuinely valued throughout the meal. In a world where good service is becoming harder to find, this team reminds you how good hospitality can and should be.

We’ve visited several Pizza Express branches across the UK, but Speke stands out by a mile. It’s that rare combination of excellent food, outstanding service, and a lovely atmosphere that keeps you coming back. Came on the 30th September with my partner for a date night. The booking was for 5:30 but we arrived 5 minutes early.  At 5:35, we received our drinks and ordered 1 doughballs as a starter to share and 2 pizzas for the main.

We got the starter about 5:50. About 5 mins later, we asked the lady server who took our plate if we could please have the mains. We were looking around, and it didn't look like that many tables were getting their food. It wasn't very busy either. I saw a lot of deliveroo drivers coming in and out to collect orders.

At 6:30, we asked a lady server how long our pizzas would be as we were waiting for a while. She said she would check for us. Another couple by us asked the lady if they could take their pizzas to go as they were waiting a long time for theirs.

At 6:35, the lady server came out to us to say that the kitchen had lost our order ticket, and they were going to put the pizzas in the oven for us. Me and my partner had bowling booked next door for 7 and had to get there 10 minutes early to check in. I asked the lady to cancel and and we would have to leave. She said we could take it to go. In the end, we agreed to take it out because we would have waited longer to settle the bill after eating, plus we were starving! The lady was charging us full price for the meal when she got out the card machine. I was unhappy about this and asked if we could get a discount due to a long wait, forgetting our order and having a frustrating experience.

The lady came back after 5 minutes and said her manager took the dough balls off the bill. I still wasn't very happy about it but paid just over £42 for a ruined food date, to then take the pizzas to our car to quickly eat and rush over to the bowling place. Here's me thinking 1 and a half hours would be enough to have a starter and a main. I'm extremely disappointed! They didn't even seem that apologetic about it. It was the first time I brought my partner to Pizza Express, as I recommended it, due to great experiences at the one in Liverpool One. Safe to say, he doesn't want to return to Pizza Express based on the poor service that night. We won't be returning to the speke one.

This restaurant has a nice relaxing atmosphere with good background music and the staff members are lovely.

The waitress who served us on this occasion was called Mary. She has served us on a few previous visits too.

One of my daughters is autistic and doesn’t like crowds, but this is one of her favourite happy places to visit.

Mary is very reassuring friendly, warm and attentive waitress. She is and makes my daughter feel heard, less anxious and comfortable.
