Found myself in Duke Street this morning, a place I haven't set foot in for the best part of the last decade. So I stepped in (out of the rain) to a lovely little Eaterie called 'The Brunch & Cocktail Club', which turned out to be the best thing I've done this year. What an amazing little place this turned out to be. Greeted at the door by a lovely (very welcoming and beguiling) young hostess named Tammy, I was led through the colourful Club to a quiet little corner booth, where Tammy very kindly ran through a whole list of wonderful cocktails they had on offer today. And if you ever get the chance, please pop in and try their delicious Lotus Flower special. It's a refreshing Absolut Mango Vodka based cocktail, blended beautifully with Pink Grapefruit Liqueur, Strawberry, Lychee Syrup (and Lime Juice) topped with Ting. What a way to start the day. I opted for a healthy scrambled egg and chorizo breakfast, topped with Goats Cheese and a rasher or two of grilled bacon, with caramelised onion and spinach. Which set me up for a full day of adventure with a proper big smile on my face. The place has a wonderful vibe about it, very relaxed and cosmopolitan, with an exceptional young chef named Dylan, and a vivacious mixologist from Melbourne named Georgia (who not only makes a great cocktail, but who kept me entertained and well cared for, all the time I was there). It's a fabulous little oasis in the very heart of lower Duke Street, blessed with amazing little treats and a very knowledgeable staff. I may not have been in that part of town for a very long time, but I have a feeling that the next time I'm in Liverpool ONE, I'll head off out through the Duke Street exit and spoil myself a little more often in this award winning delight of a place. Such a cool, beautifully trendy escape from the stresses of life: full of vibrant colours and happy faces to go with the wonderful food and excitingly fresh drinks. If I've offered five star reviews in the past, this place has to have an extra qualification, because it's a step above its competitors in so many ways. So it gets a FIVE STAR (PLUS) and I hope you go check it out. Just (literally) a two minute walk from the South John Street exit from Liverpool ONE. One of the city's hidden gems ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(+)...
Read moreThe decor is lovely in the restaurant. We had pre booked the bottomless brunch for 5pm with a table outside. When we arrived just before 5pm, the 3pm seating was only just leaving so outside was chaotic, full of people and lots of drinks. This meant the tables both inside and outside needed cleaning. We were then late being seated and having drinks ordered. The prosecco, mimosa and Bellini’s were warm and flat. The aperol spritz was undrinkable as it was mainly just spritz, when mentioned to a female member of staff who I think may have been a manager, her reply was ‘that’s just the measure for the bottomless drinks’. The food arrived quickly after ordering and was what I expected for a bottomless brunch. At 6:15 a staff member advised us it was time to order our last drink, it was meant to be a 90 bottomless experience. When advised we had only been seated an hour, she kindly advised we could order 2 drinks. Staff started emptying the customer outside to begin cleaning before a private party arrived. While we were finishing our drinks, One of our party attempted to go inside to use the toilet and was refused entry. Another one of our party had to ask for a manager to insist she was able to use the toilet. Door staff now arrived and began asking everyone to leave the outside area so before we left another couple needed to use the toilet and again refused entry, we were told to use the toilet in the venue across the road when we had not been dining at the venue. At this point a few people from different parties had become annoyed and frustrated with the staff, the manager was asked for again but she refused to come speak. The staff where overwhelmed and frustrated from the previous seating, the customer service was not great from a couple of staff members. One was heard saying she felt like crying to another team member. The management need to address the lack of organisation between seatings, staff attitude to customers when overwhelmed and then refusing to allow access to toilet only after the bill had been paid. I am sure the venue across the road would not appreciate you sending your paying customers over to use their facilities. We won’t...
Read moreBit of a let down on our first trip here for breakfast. Heard good things about this place so decided to come here for breakfast on Sunday morning. After waiting a little while to be seated we were shown to a table and given menus, unfortunately then we were not told that we were required to order all food and drinks at the bar. It was only after waiting around 15 minutes in confusion as to why nobody was coming to take our order that my wife and I cottoned on. I suppose we should have noticed sooner but it's fairly unexpected in a restaurant that dedicates staff to seat you and brings menus to you. It's not written anywhere on the walls nor does it advise on the menu so we would have appreciated the information. Later on we heard the staff tell another couple to order at the bar as they were seated so I figure we were simply unlucky, still it made a poor first impression. To add to the irritation there was inexplicably only one person taking orders for all food and drink at the bar and when I was finally ordering there was one hell of a long queue. When the food eventually came it was in fact very tasty, the sausage and black pudding on the English breakfast were exceptional and my wife really enjoyed the vegetarian breakfast. It's not the best breakfast in Liverpool but it's certainly worth trying out (just not waiting so long for). It should be said the seeded toast with butter was especially delicious too. I drank loose leaf tea which was good and my wife enjoyed the cappuccino. Aside from the debacle with how to order the service was actually pretty good, although we did have to stop someone and ask for cutlery as we were not given any. I suspect the problems we encountered were owing to our own ignorance on the ordering process and the very busy time we came but to be honest you would expect a breakfast restaurant in a busy part of the city centre to be experienced enough to handle the numbers without making it look like such chaos. I could possibly be tempted to give this place another try but there are definitely other places to get breakfast at least as...
