Visited in the 21st July for my Wife's birthday. Prebooked a table as know that this is a busy place and didn't want to be disappointed by not having a table available. Arrived about 15 minutes early, on arrival greated and advised that our table was not ready yet and to wait by the bar, and we would be called over when it was ready. 30 minutes later, 15 minutes after to booked time and still hadn't been called over for our table, however I could see that there had been a table for 2 set up since our arrival. Only after I went back to the lady that greated us and asked again about the booking were we taken to our table, the same table that had been set up 20 minutes earlier. Service was friendly and helpful at the table. We had 3 courses. Main course took a little bit longer than we would have liked to arrive, especially as they only give you a 2 hour booking slot. After finishing our mains we asked for the pudding menu, about 40 minutes later our waitress come back to the table and said have you had your puddings? To which I said "no, no one has been since we asked for the menus and we haven't been able to ask anyone." She apologised and said she would get the menus for us, she said she had been sent to sainsburys ( just down the road) to get some things for the kitchen. As it was getting late my wife said that we would skip the puddings and just get the bill. The waitress apologised again and said that they would give us the puddings on them due to error that was made. All in all it is a nice place to go and have something to eat. In giving it a rating I would give it 3.5/5 it's lost 1 star due to the waiting round at the start and having to ask for for a second time for our table. It also looses a star for the waiting round for main course and the mishap with the pudding, and regains 1/2 star for giving the puddings on them. If I could mark half and star on the rating I would but as I'm not able to I've had to give it 3 instead of the 3.5 that it...
Read moreLet me start by clearly stating I rarely leave negative reviews on businesses but I feel on this occasion I have no choice. I am a local to the Elephant pub and upon visiting yesterday (Fathers Day) the pub was very busy. Most of the tables here were reserved which is something I've seen increase over the years in this place baring in mind its a pub and NOT A RESTAURANT !......However on my visit yesterday they had half of the pub with empty tables with hundreds of people standing at the bar unable to be seated as they were all reserved. Some of the reservations were not until an hour or 2 so it results in empty table being unused for long periods of time which doesn't make sense.... As I was with my elderly parents we decided as we were only having 1 drink to sit on one of the tables and if the guests arrived we would move. After sitting down with my elderly parents for 30 seconds a young lady approached me and said I had to move as the table was reserved....I explained I would move gladly if the guests arrived and that we were only having 1 drink and she insisted I moved straight away as that meant she had to "wipe the table again".....I was appalled by how abrupt she was and how we had put her out by having to wipe the table again which lets be honest would take 5 seconds !!!
As I said they have got this all wrong here, if you want to eat by all means come here as its more of a restaurant now they don't want drinkers in here anymore unfortunately but should change the classification to a restaurant...
Read more1 I was in there tonight (14.12.2024) and observed a large party of Adults with young Children at two bunches of tables (adults on one set and the children left to their own devices ( some as young as 8-9 years old) on a set of tables behind the adults. We entered at9. 30pm. What worried me was that children were still sitting on their own at 10.55 pm, when clearly the younger ones should have been in bed. I was concerned for their welfare, and when at 11.10 pm they were still sitting there (ignored by the so called parents still) I Approached a Assistant Manageress to raise my concerns for their welfare, she answered : " Well they came in for a meal and they had ordered food so they can stay as long as they want." W. T. F.! So as long as you have ordered a meal you can do what you like? Where is the sense of duty of care (by the way the so called adults in the group didn't move until 11.20 pm when they finally decided to move. None of them was eating or drinking after 10.15pm!They where too self absorbed in their own conversations!) by the Elephant Management.? When I pointed out to the," Assistant Manageress" , that if I came in next week say, and ordered a meal and then Assaulted a customer (or staff) then that's perfectly fine, cos I had "ordered food "? This place has become a sick joke. You need to employ proper mature managerial staff (I. E. Some one over the age of 22, (unlike the present staff working there!) with life skills and experience who puts a sense of duty of care over...
