Let me first say that the food at this place is great. At least the non-vegetarian stuff that we tried out. Having said that, this place probably deserves 2 stars, but I just can't bring myself to give 2 stars to a place which serves good food. Hence, am being overly generous. The reason for deducting all those stars? Service. Horrible, terrible, atrocious. The guy who was serving us was not at all interested in his job. It was as if he was being forced to do this against his will. He was slow, almost rude, and pretty careless. You would at least expect an Ethiopian place to have Ethiopian wine (considering that was the only one 'native' alcoholic drink of the cuisine they were serving). Well, they did not have it. After dinner, we tried to order Ethiopian coffee, but they said it could take up to an hour for that. I mean WTF! If making/brewing Ethiopian coffee takes an hour, mention that in the menu so that we can order it before the meal!! Next, when it came to paying the bill, they conveniently mentioned that their cash machine wasn't working and there was a Tesco outside and we could go and get cash from there if we want. Hello? All these important details being left to the very end? The service was so shabby and rotten that I wouldn't go to this place ever again, despite the...
Read moreThe place had a cosy, homely vibe. The decor felt very authentic and made for a pleasant atmosphere. The aubergine starter, however, was not at all to our liking (very bitter). The waiter that served us was also a tad on the unhelpful side, giving very vague answers to all of our questions regarding the food. Despite this, the food was indisputably tasty, not to mention well-priced. Advice: Unless you're seriously famished, if you're getting a starter, you may not need to order two separate main dishes. The bread ('tef') is large, and the vegetable/meat portions are quite generous. My overall experience could have been improved with slightly more enthusiastic service and perhaps some soft background music. Oh, and before I forget: honeywine. I found it a bit odd that they didn't serve honeywine given that all of the other Ethiopian restaurants I've been to seem to have it as a signature drink. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this place for a relaxed, cheap, fun (and of course,...
Read moreI haven't had Ethiopian or Eritrea food for ages, and I found this restaurant close by. The restaurant is 5min from kings cross station and it's just opposite Tesco and next to a Thai restaurant.
When I came I realised I had only 45min left before they close, howvwer the guy was really accommodating and said no worries while ushered me to a table.
I opted for a vegetarian option as it was a bit to late in the evening for some meat. From I offer until I got my food, probably 10-15 min. The assortments was put on top this big pancakes - not the pancakes but the white, fluffy bread like dish.
It was good and just how I remember it, except this time it was tiny spiceyier than what I wanted but not spice enough to say it was burning.
So good ;) and it filled me up so didn't eat the whole thing, and it was a big dish..
Love it and for the dish and coke and it was not to expensive happy days.
I love that the restaurant had a lot of decorations that pay? Mk homage pay to...
