A great find.
Only a 2 minute walk from the madding crowds around Kings Cross. If you're local, or have time before your train departs, please make the effort and not waste your money in the numerous fast food grease pots outside the station. This is good for, cooked well and served with a great portion of hospitality.
OK, I'll be honest, they forgot my starter (I think it got sent to another table by mistake) but I'm glad they did. And I'll tell you why. It gave me opportunity to talk to the proprietors and have a good chat. It's a husband & wife business and they just want to please their customers, and they do that well. They were very apologetic and so friendly. Truly excellent hosts. Their little error actually turned this into my favourite dining experience of the year so far, purely because of their friendly, accommodating nature.
The restaurant itself is not too big but with a bright, clean and relaxed modern style. Perfect for couples, families and groups of friends. I believe they will also host larger parties too.
So, what about the food? It's great! Nothing fancy, just your favourite Italian dishes but home cooked and done well. Fancy? No. Fresh? Yes. Tasty? Absolutely. And all served very hot. And backed up by a good range of beers, wine (and decent ones too) and cocktails if that's your thing.
Price was very reasonable too. I spent just under £50, which may sound a lot but I dined well (full 3 courses, 2 glasses of wine and a beer) as I had a long journey ahead. You could spend a lot less and still have a very good meal!
So, did they make a small error? Yes. It happens. We all do it. Did it affect my dining experience? Quite the opposite. I left this restaurant as a very happy, well fed customer. Next time I'm in the area I will actually make the time to dine here again, rather than just rush some terrible food elsewhere. It's absolutely worth being...
Read moreWe had our staff Christmas "do" there on Tuesday 10th December. The nice standout feature that sets this restaurant apart was how personal and on-the-ball both waitering staff were. Every request was swiftly catered for, and served with personality, warmth and friendliness. I had the mozzarella ball starter and penne arrabbiata main. They even took the trouble to learn our names, a personal touch, which made the dining especially enjoyable, as it felt like being at someone's house and getting bespoke service (rather than customers in a restaurant). Attention to detail was incredible, from the extra side of skin-on fries that I'd forgotten I'd pre-ordered, to the accidental double-ordering of coffee (which was swiftly cross-referenced by the staff, preventing a duplicate from being brought to the table), and the option of ordering vanilla ice cream, these were the highlights for me! Even at the end of the afternoon, when we would usually head on somewhere else for the 'afterparty', we decided to stay in the same place. The restaurant was only too happy to let us have the big round table in the corner and carry on with further cocktails and bottles into the evening. Soft, ambient lighting was provided and the staff were very familiar and friendly by this point. They were incredibly patient, even with the lively crowd that we were. Feedback received from other staff members the following day was hugely positive and all props to our ops manager for choosing an ideal location for our annual Christmas celebration. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable experience, and I can only too highly...
Read moreA fun little Italian spot close to Kings Cross Station. Named after “Rex” or “King” in Latin and Cross, it draws its inspiration from Kings Cross.
Came in here for lunch, with a short notice booking on Fork. Fork continues to be a great way to find recommended places to eat, with discounts as well.
Waitress was pleasant, and greeted us immediately when we entered, smiling that she just got her notification on her Apple Watch after we booked online. The restaurant was very accommodating with being attention to our kids allergies to eggs and nuts.
Our oldest and youngest kid both had the spaghetti Bolognese which they describe as delicious and yummy yummy. 😁. Our teenage son had the chicken mushroom penne, which was a very generous portion, and also very tasty. The waitresses recommendation, I tried the spinach and ricotta ravioli. Portion looked a lot smaller than I thought it would be, but was very filling. My wife ate a little later, and I had the bruschetta and a side of broccolini. The broccolini had a nice spice and flavour to it, bruschetta was excellent. We also had a glass of Chianti, and we all split a panna cotta for dessert, which was very good.
Everything was really good. The place itself is a little old, but does have nice decor and new paint.
We would highly recommend eating here as the food and service are just outstanding....
