For starters we tried the sticky thai wings which had nice flavour and was crispy which made the texture really good but the chicken itself was dry which made it less pleasant. We also had the calamari which was really good and came with a nice sauce it was crispy on the outside and the inside tasted fresh and wasn't rubbery. Steamed chicken dumplings was decent the sauce went perfectly and the chicken inside was very moist but I felt the inside lacked flavour the chicken and veg seamed plain so the vinegar sauce it came in helped and it wasn't too sour either it was nice.
For mains we tried the chicken jawa which was quite nice. The chicken was spicy but overly spicy. The salsa that came with it accompanied it really well. What I would say is the portion size isn't great and there isn't amazing flavour again the sauce is required to help it, but the chicken was tender and cooked well. The char grilled duck was really nice the duck was cooked perfectly and wasn't dry and the sauce it came in had load of flavour I would say this is better than the chicken and I don't really eat duck. Lastly the prawns Singapore laska was probably the best main of the lot the broth had amazing flavour and the contents of the broth were really good and cooked well if you like coconut you'll like this dish even more it has a slight sweetness and a good amount of heat which goes well together. And the prawns were tender and not rubbery which was great. Tip if you order some noodles and put that into the both it makes the dish better. With all the mains we had a side of egg fried rice which was standard nothing special or note worthy.
For dessert we all had the chocolate fondant with coconut ice cream. The ice cream was lovely and creamy not icy like cheap ice cream. The fondant was warm and soft but the centre wasn't gooey which was hugely dissatisfying. But the taste and textures were amazing so we enjoyed it regardless.
In terms of drinks we tried the wild strawberry mocktail which was probably the best mocktail on the menu it was sweet but not too sweet it had fizz and the passion fruit with it made it better. We also tried the lychee mocktail which I didn't think was great. If you like mint you'll definitely enjoy it. But for me it was too minty. But it starts off tasting nice but leaves a toothpaste flavour on your tongue which I didn't enjoy.
Overall I would say the place has a nice atmosphere and good outside seating with a lot of seating. But we noticed inside in the summer there was a lot of little flies and they kept coming to the table because they had two lights around the table one above and one on the wall which is super annoying. The place is kid friendly they have colouring for them and little games and word searches which is nice and a decent kids menu. Food is mediocre not amazing but not terrible. I would go again and try some of the other dishes which I will do. Price wise I would say it isn't worth it and very expensive for okay food. You can pay the same amount and get better food in my experience.
Finally, the service was really good though and the waiters were super friendly and helpful I couldn't fault them. The small thing I would say is they seem to get distracted with eachother and it becomes hard to get their attention but that...
Read moreI chose my spouse’s birthday to visit BananaTree whereas I wanted to go sushisamba owing to the important the day, nevertheless. Location of the O2 bananatree is spot on except for a small tree which blocks the name and the view of the entrance from outside. We reached at 21:00 hrs and were not even helped to get a table. All the employees seemed too busy in their closing chores whereas on google they say open till 23:00hrs. Anyway we found a table outside as it wasnt crowded. A board outside said kids eat free this week however when asked the waiter, she bluntly refused and said the board is expired. Anyway we started giving the order, she noted it and snatched menu cards from us. I received no service. Not three star, two star, not even worth a single star. I had to constantly walk in and chase the employees in their corners to get their attention.
Starting with food, the kids menu at 7.25 was an insult to both the food and the money. Utter Dry noodle with no broth, no sauce, no curry, just 4 pieces of chicken nugget next to a tiny brown of tasteless sphaggetti.
The pad thai, being their signature dish bananatree served was dry tasteless and next to rubbish disappointing to such levels now I do not want to travel Thailand ever. Get your things in order or start closing the shop sooner if your staff is burned out due to long working hours. When I pay 30 pound per person, I expect good portions, good sauce, and authentic taste for which I stepped out of my home to your door.
The chicken katzu curry with rice was the only consolation with taste which was dis membered by the absence of curry sauce in the another dry dish. The staff had the nerve to charge me extra for a curry sauce which for a rice based dish is a mandatory ingredient in all asian preparations. Total non intuitive experience for my wife who was feeling hungry so I booked a cab to get here sooner than we could with public transport. Why did we bother now she feels.
Kindly close this branch early if your employees do not believe in customer service throughout working hours at the bananatree O2. You have no right spoiling peoples hard earned money and few good laughs in their lives against such poor quality restaurant you so proudly call BananaTree. I will probably visit one more time just to know if today was just my bad day.. hopefully you guys...
Read moreI'm forced to give a star because google doesn't allow reviews without stars. I wouldn't want to waste even a single star for this experience. Went on Sunday evening with my wife and kid. We love asian food and expected good or at least basic thai food especially near O2 in London.
I will never visit this place again. Even If I am extremely hungry, then I will visit the pret, greggs, subway or even the tesco/sainsbury nearby but not this place.
We ordered a simple veg katsu curry and pad thai noodles. Food was serviced within no time which made me suspicious, but I didn't want to judge too soon. While pad thai was Ok, nothing special about it .. katsu curry didn't have sufficient curry in it, lots of plain rice. They need to work on the ratio. Wasn't impressed with the taste, felt like bottled curry. We asked for extra curry and were charged extra for it. Fine. Curry came pretty quickly too. After enquiring we were told food is not made at the restaurant but delivered from a central kitchen.
I eat out for good food and for a good experience, not for frozen food which is defrosted on order.
On further research I learnt that this restaurant chain is owned by the big table group. Today's experience will not allow me to visit any restaurant owned by this group anywhere which includes places like Las Iguanas (Latin American), Cafe rouge (French), Bella Italia (Italian) and Amalfi (Italian)
Good luck to the group and the chain, hope mine was a one off experience, but I'm hesitant to visit any of your places. Going forward before entering a restaurant I will be tempted to ask if they even have a kitchen where they cook food or they only have ovens in the back to defrost frozen food from...
