BASE has all the foundations for a good eatery but the service is a huge letdown.
Quick summary of what’s good though: Decent wood fire pizzas at standard prices (most of the pizzas are between £11.50-£13) Nice outdoor seating with awning and recently installed benches; great for a pizza and drink when the sun is out Fairly quick food wait times Somewhat child friendly as I think they only have one highchair and no children’s menu
A few things I found extremely problematic when it came to service and health and safety: Some staff members have an attitude Staff members will handle food with their unwashed (we had some pizza leftover that we wanted to take home and a staff member offered to put it inside the pizza box, handling the pizza with her unwashed hands, which I told her it would not be necessary) Staff member borrowed one of our dining chairs, used it to get a bottle of spirit from the top shelf and then put it back at our table without even bothering to clean it. When I asked her to clean it she sniggered at me and laughed to herself
Having worked in hospitality, the lack of care when it comes to cleanliness and hospitality in general is disappointing and often a sign of a lack of regard for the establishment and its customer from the top. If you trained your staff members on health and safety, cleanliness and overall professionalism, then I’m sure you’ll see more customers, especially...
Read moreI ordered quite a lot of food via Uber eats. One of the pizzas was gluten free, as it gave the option on the app. I got charged an extra £5 for this. I also requested gluten free garlic bread. The owner called me to inform me that gluten free ingredients cost him alot of money and that he could do it for me just this once but in future forget it as he said his wife thinks it’s too much hassle for them. When my order turned up my pizza wasn’t gluten free, even thou I had paid a premium price for it. I contacted Uber eats and the automated form just responded to me saying Thankyou got your feedback even though I had issued a complaint. Absolutely unprofessional & useless company. Won’t be ordering again
Regarding your reply: an older man called me - he sounded Italian possibly, he was the one who told me the gluten free ingredients he bought were too expensive & told me his wife agreed. I assumed he was the owner based on this information as what employee would do this ? I’m sorry I just can’t order from you again due to this unprofessional conduct. If I did this in my job...
Read moreI would go towards 2.5/5 but there's no option like this and I truly believe that the place doesn't deserve 2 stars as it has potential.
Have been there many times over the past few weeks so I felt like leaving this one.
First of all, food. I must say that dine-in tastes much better than a take away option. It feels like the pizza is richer in ingredients and the dough itself tastes amazing. Take aways have been a hit and miss but most recently I had a chicken tikka pizza which was horrible in my opinion. There were thousands shredded pieces of chicken on each slice which were dry and didn't go along with neither jalapenos or the tomato sauce or even cheese. Margaritas & pepperoni ones taste decent.
Brunches are not really great. The problem is the Hollandaise sauce - it's absolutely tasteless. It needs to have a bit of lemon & vinegar flavour to wrap it up. The amount of lettuce on their eggs benedicts is too much in my opinion too.
Coffee is great and the female serving staff is lovely...
