Third and last time we'll go to this place. Night starts off with us being overcharged for our first round of drinks. Barman made out like it was no big deal and then proceeded to show us receipts that showed the correct amount. No signal in there so was unable to check my banking app immediately. Went outside to get signal to check what I was charged - sure enough, overcharged by 10% even though the receipts said otherwise. Raised this with the barman while my friend was still at the bar and was told that this was a "service charge" for an order over £50. Was not advised about this service charge beforehand and was not given the opportunity to opt out, which isn't just dishonest business practice, but is also against the law. I let this slide.

My friend and I went back to the bar later for more drinks. We ordered 6 cocktails (there was a 2 for 1 special) and advised the barman that we would like to split the bill to ensure we don't go over the £50 where will be charged an additional 10%. This is where it gets interesting - the barman proceeds to charge us for 3 cocktails each, 2 for 1 special plus 1 at full price. 3 cockatils for the price of 4. Instead of just including an extra cocktail for free (which is what the special entailed), they prioritised making the most out of us when they realised we didn't want to overpay and be forced to pay an additional 10% on our order. I then watched the barman split 2 shots of alcohol between all 6 cocktails. It was at this point I decided I'd had enough and requested that I'd like my service charge back, which they thankfully obliged to.

I won't be going back there. The drinks are expensive as it is. Of course each round is going to cost more than £50 when you're in a group of 5 people. I wonder how many people don't pay attention to their bill and end up paying an additional 10% on each round without being told, and it not being displayed on the receipt.

If this place disputes this review, I will post a screenshot of the payment from my bank account along with a photo of the receipt, which I kept.

My group had spent a fair bit of money at this place, only for them to behave in this manner towards us. Disgusting...

I have to say, I'm writing this only because I find the 5 star reviews very suspicious. This was my experience:

Full food menu not available because the place has just opened and the kitchen isn't ready. Fair enough, but quite a shame since the full menu looks great.

On the small food menu I ask for the chicken wings since a reviewer here said they were great. Not available. Ok, would have been good to tell your guests that when you give them the menu.

Waitress can't understand much in the way of spoken drinks orders. Fair enough, German words can be hard, and they've just opened. Friend's drink takes around 20 minutes to appear, even though bar staff not doing much. Order was probably forgotten.

Ordered dirty fries and hotdogs. Cheese on dirty fries not melted at all. Hot dogs are ok. Later, friends ordered preztels. "You can't screw up a pretzel" friend says. Oh yes you can! It's warm, soft and unsalted. Terrible waste of 4 quid. I think they were frozen Lidl preztels heated up in a microwave.

Want to play games, because they seem pretty cool. My gf asks about ping pong. It seems some staff members are playing and we have to wait for them. Cool cool cool. Instead we are able to play shuffleboard, which was excellent. 5 quid per hour per person, well worth it.

Go to play ping pong, only 2 bats available. Small things, not difficult to get 4 bats, right? About 5 minutes later, informed that the board is reserved and we have to stop.

Last of all, see the photo. Can't even get the spelling right. Shoddy work.

The place has potential if they can get a bit more organised and rustle up some decent food. But if you are looking for a decent place for Oktoberfest, best give...

Bermondsey Bierkeller, nestled at the foot of London Bridge, is an absolute gem that excels in every aspect. From the moment you step inside, the vibrant atmosphere and authentic German decor transport you straight to a Bavarian beer hall, creating an unforgettable experience. The customer service is outstanding—friendly, attentive, and always ready with a recommendation, making you feel right at home. The prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of both the food and drinks on offer. Speaking of food, I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch here. The menu is packed with delicious German classics, and every bite was bursting with flavour. Whether you’re indulging in a hearty schnitzel, a giant pretzel, or one of their famous sausages, you won’t be disappointed. Bermondsey Bierkeller also offers a range of entertainment options that set it apart from the rest. The games rooms available for hire add a fun, interactive element to your visit, and for those looking for something a bit more adventurous, the axe throwing is a must-try! It’s the perfect way to add some excitement to your day or evening out. Overall, Bermondsey Bierkeller is a standout destination in London, offering an unbeatable mix of atmosphere, great food, and unique entertainment. Whether you’re popping in for a quick bite, a leisurely lunch, or a full night out with friends, it’s a place that delivers on every level. Highly recommended!
