I had dinner plans in Borough Market last night, so when I got an email earlier in the week about a new golf venue opening the very same day just around the corner I thought I'd take advantage of the discount code and give it a go. Had a really good time with one caveat.

The good:

The golf course itself is great. Interesting holes, with some really cool 3D models. Really enjoyed the game, as did my friends.

The art on the walls in the golf course is amazing. Really impressive, and makes for a very cool environment.

Staff were really friendly.

The bad:

Whilst the golf course was finished, it felt like the entrance / bar area was still a bit of a work in progress. I asked one of the members of staff and they said that their team had been badly hit by covid in the week leading up to opening, and it had put them behind. They didn't want to dissapoint people who had booked for this weekend, but they're closing the venue from Monday til Friday evening next week to get things finished off. It's a shame as it isn't the best first impression, but once we were on the golf course we honestly forgot about it until we left.

All in all we really enjoyed ourselves, and the staff were kind enough to give us fully stamped loyalty cards for a free round so we could come back and see it when it's finished.

Right now it's a four star experience, but I think that it will be a five star venue when it's finished. I'll definitely come back when I'm local to see how...

I can’t say anything about the crazy golf or the bar, but the pinball offering at the arcade was very disappointing.

I play competitively, so was hoping to get some practice in on a visit to London.

I’ve seen a similar review reply about the repairman currently moving workshop so is unable to fix the machines, but this was 2 months ago. Even so, I imagine this still applies.

Despite this, only 2 out of the 6 machines were ‘working’. After a couple of games on a very tired, frustrating Spiderman (which had an inactive right flipper, terrible lean and other issues), I had to turn it off at the switch to save others the struggle.

The only saving grace was a fun classic machine, Royal Flush, which I spent the majority of the time on.

If you’re a keen pinball player or curious about the machines and want to give them a go, I wouldn’t recommend this place (at least not right now).

I hope that when I visit again, they are cared for and up and running but for now, a 2/5 is the best I can give as the service was great and I can only assume the crazy...

Arrived on time for our booking stops at the welcome desk unsure if we were to wait for anyone. Barman behind the bar making drinks and a girl with AirPods in, on her phone scrolling and no one in sight.

Started to walk forwards to the bar and no welcome, no greeting. Introduced ourselves and provided our booking info - turns out the girl at the bar was also working but clearly could not be bothered and did not care she was meant to be hosting.

We moved on ordered drinks and then sat down. But if a lack of atmosphere but was kinda nice we were the only group in there - unsurprising with the staff!

The golf itself was fun! Some tricky ones and the odd thing wrong with the set up which causes the golf balls going off the course.

Arcade machines bit naff and limited.

Overall an ok place for cocktails and a fun activity. Shame the staff brought the experience down - never really like returning somewhere if the staff don’t care. Seems they were both more interested in scrolling o tiktok or...

I came to Plonk on a rainy lunchtime break to play pinball. There are six machines there in total: Bugs Bunny’s Birthday Ball (Bally, 1991) Diner (Williams, 1990) Dr. Dude (Bally, 1990) Royal Flush (Gottleib, 1976) The Sopranos (Stern, 2005) Spider-Man (Stern, 2007) They are all on uneven playing surfaces. They all have a bias to the left or to the right, some are game-ruiningly bad. Bugs Bunny is particularly poorly aligned. Spider Man’s top flipper does not work. I appreciate that pinball machines are very expensive to buy new, and I love the variation in age and style of these rescued second hand machines but please spend a bit of time correctly angling the machines, so they have the correct tilt and are left/right even. Some need TLC, and a bit of preventative maintenance now will pay dividends with years of playable machines.
