Definitely has potential - good set up and good coffee, would have loved to have tried the food but the terrible service and attitude forced me away.
I've seen a few reviews for this place about their attitude towards anyone with a pram.. I went in, yes it was the weekend but it wasn't even a 1/4 full. There was a HUGE space right at the front (multiple free tables and seats) and as my baby was asleep I couldn't really wake him up to leave the pram outside.
I did say when I arrived that if it looks like it's going to start getting busy I'd happily vacate, however rules were rules and there were no exceptions I was told.
Even though I had sat down and asked for a food menu, and also ordered a coffee during this time I was told I had to sit outside. No problem, I moved and sat outside.
I would say the staff obviously have no attention to detail or customer service skills - If I asked for a menu and ordered a coffee while asking for a table, at a guess do you think I was planning on eating/drinking there.
When my coffee came out I was given it in a take away cup? I asked if I could have it in a normal cup as I was planning on staying and ordering some food - How retarded that the response from the staff is not one of "i'm sorry, sure I'll sort that out for you" like any half decent cafe who rely on customers to earn an income but one of "I thought you were leaving". Plain and simple. No discussion. Then she walked off.
No.. no I wasn't. What gave you that impression. At a guess and based on other reviews that i've read this is their standard attitude and response to people who don't fit into their ideal customer base i.e. people with kids.
Words of advice - train your staff, lose the attitude and have some respect for paying customers. While you may not care or notice, I go out of my way to tell people (that includes other parents looking for good coffee) to stear well clear...
Read moreMy husband and I visited the Birdhouse on the 1st of April, 2023 - It was a brisk day. We live in the Caribbean, so walking around in this 5 degree weather was chilly and refreshing. Our first stop for the day was this lovely café, with yellow dishes and accents throughout. We were sat in the back–it was so cozy!
We sipped on our cappuccinos and waited patiently for an avocado toast to share. The only bad thing I have to say is that we didn't order two, because it was pretty dang good, but, we did plan to eat our way through Clapham that day, so, sharing was a must that morning!
Staff was pleasant - I'd for sure return for a morning coffee if I'm ever back in London/Clapham area again!
I have to say some of the negative comments in Google reviews make me giggle. People complaining about their dogs not being allowed, almond milk separating (It does, all the time, no matter how fresh...) or their kids having to sit on their lap (What did anyone ever do without prams or highchairs back then?!)
The café is tiny, so house rules must apply and we, as guests, must respect them in order for the day to flow. Lastly, humans can make mistakes, and some of these negative reviews I believe shouldn't even count for their star rating, because it's just cranky people not getting their way....
Read moreI’ve been a regular here for years but to be treated with complete rudeness by Matteo was awful- it was unwarranted and my friend who was with me witnessed this- they will respond and try to deflect it on me which will not be true- look at their other reviews when there rudeness has benn pointed out- they do not take accountability for their r rudeness - now every time I walk past Matteo gives me nasty looks- I seriously think the guy is looking for trouble- very bad- I’ve found out he’s been giving fake reviews for neighbouring coffee shops without visiting them and he has been challenged about this- not a nice character- the sooner they go out of business the better- because of their rudeness and attitude that seems to be the way they are going-...
