Sundays have a certain magic to them – a slower rhythm, a softer glow, a chance to pause and savour life – and there's simply no better place to do that than at this incredible pub. I've visited many spots over the years in search of that elusive "perfect Sunday roast atmosphere," and I can say, hand on heart, this place delivers it in spades. From the moment you step through the door, you're welcomed not just as a customer, but as a guest. There's something genuinely warm and heartfelt about the way the staff greet you – it's not forced or overly formal, just real hospitality. You get the sense that you're in a place that values people, not just footfall. The setting itself strikes the perfect balance between rustic charm and modern comfort. Think glowing fireplaces, cosy nooks, and an inviting buzz of conversation around you. It's the kind of environment that makes you want to stay a little longer, order that extra drink, and truly soak it all in. And while I won't go into the specifics of the menu (part of the joy is discovering it for yourself), I will say this: what’s offered here on a Sunday is not just a meal – it's an experience. Everything is done with an attention to detail that’s becoming increasingly rare these days. The portions are generous, the timing impeccable, and the overall quality is consistent every single time I've visited. What sets this pub apart, though, isn’t just what’s on the plate or in your glass – it’s the feeling you get while you’re here. It’s a space where families laugh together, where couples share quiet moments, and where friends gather to reconnect. There's a real community spirit that fills the room – something that can't be faked or manufactured. It's clear that this place is loved, both by those who run it and by those who return, week after week. It’s not just about food or drink – it’s about creating a perfect Sunday ritual. A chance to slow down, switch off, and enjoy life’s simpler pleasures in an environment that makes you feel completely at ease. If you're looking for a Sunday destination that goes beyond the ordinary – one that truly makes the end of your weekend feel like the highlight, not the wind-down – do yourself a favour and spend a Sunday here. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning...
Read moreMe and my friend had booked a table at 4pm today (Sunday). We walked in and stood by the door, no staff member checked us in so after a few minutes we wandered around the tables to find our name on one of them. We sat down and tried to order a roast on the app (order to table) but it was not an option on the app. We then spoke to a staff member (Antonia) who said that there’s a shortage of staff and we can’t order a roast until after 5pm. I kindly asked her if we did something wrong in not booking for a roast specifically and she said she’s not sure if there’s a booking option on the two websites which can be used to book, to specify a roast - I then checked and there wasn’t. We were told to wait over an hour to order a roast after 5pm due to staff shortages in the kitchen. We sat and waited an hour and ordered drinks in the mean time. When the hour was up, we asked a kind waitress named Leovanna who asked the kitchen - they said there’s no more meat and we can’t order a roast after all. This was clearly frustrating and I went to tell Antonia that this could have clearly been avoided had she actually asked the kitchen the issue, instead of lying that there’s staff issues and we should wait. Antonia did not apologise at any point, until I said we are leaving, and as feedback, so this doesn’t happen to another customer in the future, either provide an option for roast in the booking, ask the customers what they are here for (by checking them in maybe?) or ask the kitchen if it is possible, instead of making people wait over an hour into their booking. Running out of meat on a sunday at 4pm when you offer a roast is also not good service - clearly ill prepared. Shocking customer service. Leovanna’s kindness and understanding was the only good thing about this entire encounter, but I would avoid this place on a sunday. Or avoid...

Came here for Christmas dinner with a team from work.
The pre-ordering process was thorough and made very simple. The menu had plenty of choice with some varied dishes that catered for vegetarians too. They were also happy to discuss alterations to the meals. The total cost was £30 a meal and this was for three courses, we paid £10 deposit each. I was able to discuss and make changes to my booking via e-mail and at all times I was impressed with the friendliness of the staff.
In The Plough's defence, the night we went there was an extremely busy one. Whilst there were a (very) few empty tables, the rest of the place was very crowded. Our booking was for a group of 10 and we ended up being squeezed onto quite a small table. The table was decorated with crackers and other Christmassy treats which was lovely, but there wasn't a lot of space on there for much else. We were sitting elbow to elbow on a selection of seats that ranged from tall, cushioned and comfortable to short, metal and decidedly butt-numbing. The service was also verrrry slow which was probably owing to how busy they were.
I was impressed by the fact that they had made little cards made up showing what everybody had ordered, which helped people to remember food they had chosen months before. When they did make one mistake (bringing the wrong dessert to the table), they were quick to apologise and rectify the issue.
The food itself was very tasty and everybody enjoyed their meals (the brandy butter ice cream nearly blew my head off, but in a good way).
Overall, I would like to go again at a time when it is not so busy to get a better feel for the place. I would still consider it for Christmas dinner next year, but would go as a...
