I am a restaurant worker at the market, every day I have always gone to buy bread for the restaurant, I have never had a bad experience but today was somewhat ironic since I arrived at the place and saw a long line of people who were lining up to buy donuts and on the other side there was a man standing waiting for his order but he was in the middle and whenever I have gone to buy they have never served in the middle but at the beginning and the boy who was serving was right there cutting the bread for the man who was standing in the middle waiting for his order obviously since I was looking for bread I stood at the beginning and after the man there was no one until the boy returned with the order more people started to arrive and he asked who was next I raised my hand and told him I was next but he was very rude to me and told me that I had to line up after the other people and I explained to him that I had arrived a while ago and he told me that he would not serve me if I did not line up, I told him again I explained that I had moved to the beginning because what I was looking for was bread, but he was ruder and raised his voice at me telling me that he would not serve me if I did not line up and well I walk quickly because it is bread for the restaurant where I work. I think they should put people to work who know how to give good customer service and not treat badly the customers who come to buy since it is very rude to be rude, especially with people who come almost every day to...
Read moreThe guy who runs the Bread A Head stall at Canopy Market is not friendly at all. Every time I stop to buy bread he seems annoyed by my questions. Once I wanted to pay in cash and he said that they don't accept cash, only card payments. I asked why and he said for hygiene reasons. Fair enough but I only had cash with me and almost begged him to accept my money. The answer was still a categoric NO! with pretty unpleasant manners. I wonder what would happen if one day the card machine stops working... Are they gonna stop selling the produce and lose a lot of money or would they adjust to the situation and accept cash... Today I passed by to buy a loaf and asked if he could cut it in half for me. Again the answer was no. Why? I asked... And he started to give me a list of strange reasons... "we don't cut it for anyone so I won't make an exception for you", "If I use the knife I will have to clean it after", "I don't have space for cutting", and the best one in my opinion was: "I don't want to put the employees through more danger than the absolutely necessary". I said: "I don't understand... I can see a lot of half loafs of bread on display so you do cut the bread, right?" He didn't know what to say. It was a very unpleasant situation to deal with and still I don't feel I was given a reasonable and professional answer to why he couldn't cut my loaf in half. By the way, I was the only customer at that time. The bread is good. The doughnuts'...
Read moreI used to love Bread Ahead, but we had a very disappointing experience here during our last visit to London. I had always said their homemade donuts were among the best in the world, but our VERY expensive box of sweet treats ended up in the garbage bin at our hotel later that evening.
Overhyped, the line to get a box of donuts was very long. We stood outside in the shivering cold rain until it was our turn. We opted for 3 donuts, all stuffed with custard or pudding. The flavors were appealing and the items looked tasty. We paid 4.50 pound per donut, which is almost $6 per donut in U.S. dollars. This is an outrageous price regardless, but we were willing to shell out the dough (hee hee) for handmade goodies.
We took the cute little blue box on the Tube and back to our hotel to enjoy with a cup of hot tea. All I can say is, what a waste of calories. Every donut was overcooked, one was so browned that it tasted burned. You can see in my photos how gross the treats looked. All of the treats tasted of very old cooking oil, which is a big no-no in the bakery business. They were disgusting, and I don't say that lightly. The custard inside was tasty, but that was all I enjoyed about my overpriced donuts.
I am heartbroken to say that I can no longer recommend this bakery, especially for their donuts. I also apologize to anyone who went here based on my (former) glowing...
