Popped into Cafe 403 for a takeaway breakfast sandwich (no menu / pricing) ordered just a basic bacon / sausage (told pay later albeit I asked how much, due to locality expected approx ÂŁ4.50 max especially as the premise 3 doors away are at that price) took an absolute age to be served and sand with prepared. Asked for bacon not to be well done and not to allow my food to be mixed with eggs which were on the same griddle plate as I donât eat / like eggs ( a reasonable request, which was looked upon with distaste) So some nearly 15 mins later my sandwich is done ( really appreciated that other people came in after me placed orders and were served much quicke) anyway that aside letâs talk about the food itself. When handed my sandwich ÂŁ5.60 was charged, the board said from ÂŁ3.80 to say I was a bit shocked⊠So for that price I would have expected a âQuality sandwichâ with good standard / quality bacon and sausage, oh how wrong was I and so disappointed. The bacon was overcooked / transparent and in essence cheap catering bacon mass produced, the sausage was even worse than that genuinely, greasy and no flavour what so ever, in fact I would go as far as saying there would be more pork in a packet of pub scratching genuinely.
As such the sandwich was not eaten and quickly disposed of in the street bin. As such I am shocked at the âgenuine good reviewsâ given to Cafe 403 and the quality of its food. I am disappointed in having to post my honest opinion and unfortunately I wonât be visiting Cafe 403 again, purely because of the poor quality of service ingredients and standard of the sandwich experience I had. Hopefully this will be received in the genuine context it is meant and that the proprietor will acknowledge the feedback and...

Even our grown-up children still stop by for a proper fry-up at a great price!
What makes this place so special is the warm, personalised service, especially from Raso, who always goes the extra mile. He pays attention to the little details: I like my toast well-done on both sides, my husband prefers his without butter, and my tea always comes just the way I like it, with sweeteners, placed thoughtfully in front of me. Itâs those small touches that make you feel valued.
On one occasion, he even noticed the Fruity Sauce wasnât on the table and brought it over without us asking. Both Raso and the lovely young lady who works with him have fantastic people skills, genuinely kind, attentive, and welcoming every single time.
If youâre looking for a cosy cafĂ© with consistently great food and outstanding service, 401 CafĂ© is a must. Breakfast done just how you like it, every time.
Thank you, as always...
Read moreCafe 403 is a proper greasy spoon cafe (not caffé) that's not greasy. The food choices are what you expect of such a cafe and priced just right. The food is cooked right behind the counter, so no need to worry about cleanliness etc, as it's all visible. The staff are friendly and polite. My only annoyance is with their typical fried tomato, especially as cooked tomatoes are the healthiest ingredient of a fry up. When the menu says breakfast includes a tomato, then a whole one is expected (2 halves as usual). Only half of one, or worse, a slice of one, is not acceptable to me and may be against the trades description act. Please correct for the next time I visit. PS. I have now corrected your opening hours as we discussed. PPS. The cafe owners noted my tomato moan and have changed their portion to suit. Please LIKE if you found this review...
