Subject: Concerns about Café Deccan
Hi everyone,
We wanted to share my experience at Café Deccan, Unit 2, 3 Limeharbour, London E14 9LS. According to their window advertisement, they claimed to serve halal food, but our visit raised serious concerns about this claim.
Today, my companions and I went to the café, hoping to get a menu since we live nearby and are considering it for our business needs. The lady at the counter offered us complimentary tea as first-time customers. However, the tea was unpleasant and not flavourful at all. When we requested a receipt, we were charged £6 for two cups of tea.
We had not gone there specifically for the tea; our main interest was reviewing the menu. When we inquired about the charge after being told that the tea was complimentary, the staff became aggressive and rude, insisting that nothing was free. We were not seeking a complimentary service; we needed clarification on their inconsistent information.
This situation raises a broader issue: Why are customers and local community members being misled? We believe that the café should be held accountable for misleading the community. We hope that people in Tower Hamlets uphold their commitments and values.
We have become suspicious about the authenticity of their halal food offerings. We trusted them based on their claims and urged the council to investigate this matter to ensure they operate honestly. We checked the HALAL certificate number 10080 with the issuing authority, and they confirmed that the certificate expired in 2022 and that they no longer serve halal food. Additionally, the certificate displayed on the window and door was a photocopy, not the original document.
Thank you for...
Read moreTo describe it in 2 words, Amazing Café. About 6 or 7 tables and relaxing environment. Great for a quick snack or drink. The main food, however, compliments the Hyderabadi taste quite accurately, with the correct spice levels.
The Indian starters are great value for money, and great taste as well. The Chicken is moist and melts in your mouth while the paneer 65 and the gobi 65 are crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The starters arrived at my table within 5 minutes of ordering, and staff were very pleasant. For my drink, there were many options but the mojito stood out and tasted very nice. The main course then arrived about 10-15 minutes after the starters. I ordered chicken boneless biryani that came in a large portion and reminded me of the true Hyderabadi taste with correct spice. The rice was well seasoned and with the yoghurt it was a great combination. Since the atmosphere was so good I decided to hang around for a bit and noticed that the dim lighting at night time gave a great sense of relaxation. I then later ordered dessert (gulab jamun) and it was a great way to cool down, sweet but not too sweet. Overall, this is a great place to go if you are looking for the taste of biryani in Canary Wharf or if you just want to feel the Indian spice sizzling on your tongue, Café Deccan is the place...
Read moreI recently visited Cafe Deccan and ordered their 2 for 1 chicken biryani deal for £10. The order came well-packaged with salan and raita on the side. The portion size was generous and perfect for a satisfying meal.
I was excited to try salan for the first time, not knowing what to expect. The flavors were a pleasant surprise with a combination of roasted peanuts and chili giving it a unique taste and texture. I would definitely recommend trying this dish if you haven't before!
Moving on to the raita, it had a refreshing taste of mint and cucumber, which complemented the spices in the biryani perfectly.
Now, for the main dish - the biryani. It was well-spiced and had a great aroma, but I was a bit disappointed with the lack of chicken pieces. I had only 2 pieces, one of which was mostly bone, so it wasn't the most protein-rich meal. However, the flavors of the biryani were still enjoyable.
Overall, my experience at Cafe Deccan was good, and I would rate it a solid 3/5. The salan and raita were the stars of the show for me, but the chicken biryani could use a bit of improvement in terms of the protein content. Nevertheless, I would recommend trying it out for a delicious Indian...
