The night was extremely cold and dry; a cold front was approaching directly from the Arctic. The lineup featured a DJ named "Lenzman". Admission was 15 quid. Inside the venue, I danced to the music, but the atmosphere was different from before. The DJ and MC were pumped up, hyping the crowd, but suddenly I remembered that I had spoken to DJ Lenzman on Instagram and he had blocked me. Lenzman made a political statement on an Instagram post unrelated to his music, writing: "We must end racism immediately" or something to that effect, in response to the Black Lives Matter riots that were all the rage at the time. I commented: "Please just focus on your music" to which he accused me of "defending racism" and blocked me. I watched his performance from among countless other ravists on the dance floor of the pitch-black venue, and when I remembered our conversation on Instagram, I immediately halted dancing. He had killed my vibe. Lenzman appeared to be putting his all into his performance, and didn't interrupt things to make any public announcements about politics during the rave. He was indeed, focused on his music. But I couldn't shake off the dead vibes to resume dancing. Yes... For Lenzman, this performance was a way to earn money. He DJs at this venue every week. And this performance was an "experience" that you pay money to enjoy. And here was a DJ providing a paid experience, and I was just a punter that consumed it.
It's such BS.
Overcome by disappointment, I left the rave early. It was not the time to dance. Weren't there more pressing matters in the world needing dealing with? What was the point in wasting time consuming a performance where I'm just a punter!? Maybe I'm getting old... Aging is not only a physical thing, but also a phenomenon in which one becomes dismayed by learning about the workings of the world as a result of gaining more life experience. In this instance, I understood how social media has the function of denuding people's minds, exposing their many flaws - whether they are intelligent or just plain stupid, even more shameful and humiliating than being stripped off in the street – and we do...
Read moreAWFUL. Had researched a lot of places and took a liking to phonox due to its countless positive reviews, particularly those on the friendliness of the security and staff. On arrival security had watched my friend throw her drink away before joining the queue. As she went up to hand her ID she was immediately kicked out of the queue as they kept telling her she was too drunk despite it only being a bit past 11 and all of us knew she had hardly had anything to drink. I then proceeded to give my ID and was also kicked out of the line and told that i was not allowed to come in as i have to look after my "drunk friend". I attempted to calmly ask to bouncer why she was kicked out and explained that its not possible for her to be drunk. He then became very annoyed for no real reason and had told me i had angered the manager despite the manager not even being present. I then left the queue and found the manager who told me that i had to go and "sober up" my already sober friend and come back in 45 minutes. It was then obvious that the reason they didn't let her in as the saw she had already had a small amount to drink and figured she wouldn't then buy drinks inside. Hugely disappointing as we came to celebrate my birthday and i wasnt even let in. Absolutely outrageous and will not...
Read moreGreat venue, great music & DJs but some of the staff are just horrendous.
Typical power trip stuff- My boyfriend and I went to see a couple of our favourite DJs Last weekend and everything was going great, until they closed the downstairs bar where a lovely girl was serving. So my partner went to the upstairs bar to get a few drinks for us, the barman made the wrong drink so my partner said Ah it was lemonade, not coke then the bar man served him water. When my partner explained the drinks order again, a bouncer came, tapped him on the shoulder and kicked him out, while the barman smugly waved him off. He called me for outside and I left. Worth mentioning that my partner was one of about 3 black guests in the entire venue. We’re in our 30s so nights like these are a bit of a treat for us and naturally don’t get too tipsy due to being unable to handle hangovers. If you go here and they make u the wrong drink, just take it and move on. If you try to correct the the wrong person, they’ll just kick you...
