Me and a few of my girls went to Cattivo yesterday for my birthday, we had a bottomless brunch. We arrived separately and due to travel issues we arrived 6 minutes late. I apologised upon arrival and we were sat downstairs. A waitress came up to our table and said "youre late." I responded again with an apology and explained we knew it would be taken off of our overall time. The rest of the group - all but one of us - arrive within the next 7 minutes. The waitress again comes over and addresses that we are late and rushes us to order. When we ask for a few minutes bc some of us had literally only just sat down the waitress POINTS at one of my friends and says "YOU were late". By 2pm, half an hour into our booking, we are told we would have to take our food home in boxes?! The waitress was very rude this entire time, where we remained calm and polite. We had one friend who had still not arrived due to train cancellations and the waitresses kept coming over every couple of minutes harassing us in a really rude way for her order - she was on the tube which i explained to them and that we were very sorry but I could not get in contact with her. We stated multiple times that if her food is later than ours its okay or if she doesnt get to eat again its okay given the circumstances of her lateness - i felt we were very flexible and polite but the waitresses had a problem with everything. I gave them her food order at 14:12 after we had already ordered, understanding that the food was going to come at different times. They were very good with refilling the punch bowl and bringing out fresh bottles of prosecco. Our food came and was okay. However at 3pm the waitress comes over and tries to pressure us to pay and states we have to leave at 3.30pm - we still have 30 minutes left of the booking. We stated we would pay at 3.30pm when it is time to leave, the waitress was evidently unhappy about this. When making the booking I had accidentally enquired at another cattivo restaurant and was sent quite a rude email essentially asking me why I was trying to make a booking when still enquiring at other places. Additionally, we were sat downstairs where there was very little ambience in contrast to upstairs they had a live DJ - given they knew it was a birthday celebration I am not too sure why they made this choice. OVERALL: the staff were very rude, we were rushed throughout the booking, the food was okay but not very brunchy, however they kept your drinks refilled the entire time which was a positive. They actually ruined what was meant to be a really nice chilled birthday brunch. I will never be going back to Cattivo which I find sad as I have been there before and previously recommended...
Read moreAbsolutely awful experience. I booked bottomless brunch at Cattivo for my birthday having been there on many occasions and had a great time. We arrived approx 15 minutes late to our booking and the staff explained this would have to come off our bottomless time which was absolutely fine. They “briefed” us prior to the brunch starting, stating that they would not be able to give us any alcohol once our brunch time was finished as they had another booking. Again, which was fine. We then ordered food however the staff did not ask about any allergies or dietary requirements, the menu also had no information on this. When the food started to arrive, my order was wrong. When telling the waiter/“manager” Nick this he was extremely patronising and made me feel that I was wrong and in fact had ordered a different item. One of the guests food arrived 20 mins after the first plate being put down. The same guest had also ordered squash fries, no where on the menu stated that they had batter on or that they were not gluten free (this guest had a gluten intolerance which the staff were aware of as she had ordered GF bread). When we had approx 30 mins left of our bottomless we were given the bill, while we were still eating, the staff were very pushy in regards to paying. After this, this is when then REAL problems started. Nick came over to us and said we had around 10 mins left, we would be able to stay to finish our food however we could not have any more alcohol. We agreed and assumed this meant we were still able to consume the alcohol that we had on the table. At 7pm (when our bottomless ended) Nick came to us once more and started we had to give him all the alcohol on the table and we were not able to finish it. When asked why he just stated these were the rules and we had to give it back. I have been to many of these brunches at Cattivo and this was never the case. Nick continues to argue with us and was extremely rude. He then SNATCHED a glass out of one of the guests hands and as a result her wrist is swollen and painful, this is not how you expect to be treated by a “manager” as he claimed to be. As a result we then said we wanted a refund for our service charge. One of the guests waited inside for the refund however it took over 15 minutes for this and as a result we were late for our next booking. He refused to let any one else in and the guest had to wait by herself. Such a let down, I will no longer be recommending Cattivo or their sister...
Read moreHaving visited Canova Hall several times, I booked Cattivo (same owners I believe and really nice) for my birthday dinner this last weekend. It was a crushing disappointment.
Firstly, the music is REALLY loud. Maybe it's better during the week, but it's not really setup as a dinner venue for the weekend. Secondly, my dinner party for 8 people had been placed on a table suited for 6 people. It was a real squash.
Here's a quick list of, what the main errors:
on arrival I was told that 4 items weren't available. After we ordered our starters (and had waited a long time) a waiter then told us that we couldn't have several of the things we wanted, so ...time to reorder!
we ordered cocktails on arrival. These took an age to arrive, and then there were still some missing. Some drinks weren't even what we ordered. It took 3 waiters about 20 minutes to get it rectified. The cocktails weren't very good.
all of the food (i.e. starters and mains) arrived at the same time. Well, not all of it, as it took about 30 minutes until everyone got their food. So we didn't get to eat together, some food was cold, and everyone agreed it was all of a very mediocre standard. You would get better food at a Pizza Express (and better service). We were constantly having to ask staff for our food, and correct them on what we had (re)ordered.
The whole experience was pretty piss-poor, especially for somewhere for which I had such high hopes. It seems that the manager knew how terrible it is - we weren't charged for any of our food. She was extremely apologetic. The rest of the service staff just didn't have an idea what was going on - either poorly trained, or just not trained at all.
Don't go. Really....
