I don't go out of my way to give bad reviews but this was hands down the worst service I've ever had which is a shame because the food is good.
We popped in before a gig to grab some food after having reserved a table. Shortly after arriving we were promptly told that we had to leave in half an hour because someone else had booked a table (bearing in mind I was told that they don't reserve tables after 6pm). The couple that came in after us were 20mins late themselves but we were told beforehand and I quote "I'm not being funny but you need to order now" whilst other diners were left alone. Then I was told it was "your fault" for not leaving within an hour. Apparently reservations are made after 6pm when there are special occasions, the irony being that it was my birthday that day. Also, we were more or less finished by the time they really needed the table which made the whole entire encounter unnecessary.
I was aware that the place was small but I didn't realise we (and only us) would be pressured to leave in such a short time and I'd be repeatedly told that it was "my fault" for not knowing that and to pretty much get out. Had I known, I wouldnt have bothered with the place.
My recommendation is to STEER CLEAR, unless you want a takeaway. Unfortunately my encounter with them is a stand out memory of my birthday, leaving me embarrassed in front of my friends for choosing such a place. I now question whether this establishment is racist or outright...
Read moreI have been to Hullabaloo a couple of times, it is my goto restaurent when I go shopping in Deptford market. Having said that the small yet cozy place reminds you of India in many ways. Be it the posters of Bollywood movies or the classical Indian music that sets up the atmosphere it all feels very close to a place in India. Its a small place which can get busy over the evening so remember to book your table if you are going as a group. Even if you dont get a table, they do take aways as well.
Having spoken about ambiance, now lets talk about the main USP for this place, its food. Indian food with tamed down spice levels to suite locals but tastes equally delicious and most importantly authentic. This place serves one of the best Paneer Tikka Shashlik I have had in UK. Their Paneer Sagwala is very delicious when teamed up with butter naan. Feel free to spice up your dish if you like it that way.
The spice infused Chai is a must have at this place to cut through the winters and feel refreshing. Ask for Vegan options and almost every dish they offer has a vegan option. For gluten intollerent customers, they do have Gluten Free items on their menu. But even with all these customizations, I love that the taste stays authentic Indian. No two thoughts about it!!!

Read moreWent as a group of 3 for a friend's birthday. I was expecting good vibes and good food. Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed, when, from the first interaction with staff, we were left feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable . We were rushed through our meal, as they informed us they had another booking an hour later. They rudely told us we were taking too long to order and eat.
We were told that occupying a table for more than an hour was lavish and outside of the norm. We waited for half an hour for our food, feeling constantly on edge about whether we would be kicked out before the food arrived. We quickly ate the food whilst being continuously told that the next booking was coming, so we need to leave.
I felt terrible for my friend, trying to enjoy her birthday felt impossible as we hurried through our meal. I have never had an experience like this before. Last night I went to a restaurant to catch up with another friend and it put this experience even more into perspective. We were spoken to like human beings, with polite and respectful conversation and interactions. Such a stark contrast to our experience at Hullabaloo on Saturday night. I am still shocked by how we were treated and hope that this review provides a warning, so that other people do not have to experience...
