Viet Rest — Restaurant in London

Would not recommend for large groups of birthdays. We had booked 15 people for our friend’s birthday for karaoke and food. We were NOT informed that we would have to pay hourly for the karaoke room neither did they request a deposit . The BIG european man that came to tell us kept bringing up £200 for what?! I don’t know so we decided we would pay for what food we had and leave. I work in hospitality, usually these things are communicated to you via your booking email/confirmation. When we arrived we were told we had to collect our food orders ourselves to make it easier for the staff. Fair enough and we did so but my friend had made a mistake when ordering for me and it turned into a whole issue which was resolved terribly. There was no grace for the fact that we accidentally ordered the wrong thing, nobody checked up on us to see how the food was or if everything arrived. When it came to payment, I wasn’t able to pay for the dish I actually did order due to the verbally aggressive security/ european man. I don’t even know what his position was at this restaurant. The ladies who were behind the till told him ‘Don’t worry about it’ and he told her to ‘shut up’ I couldn’t believe he would talk to his staff that way. The whole situation was a bunch of terrible surprises handled very poorly. He should be fired if he doesn’t know how to deal with simple conflict resolution. We will not be returning. It’s a shame as the food was great but we did not feel respected and treated fairly as guests, rather that wool was being pulled...

It's good value. The crunchy Vietnamese spring rolls were really good, surprising & tasty. I said to my mate who ordered it, eat the garnish it looks good. It was so good he forgot to let me try it! Mint, parsley a little lettuce, marinated carrot and very lightly dressed he said. I haven't seen many (non Jamaican) places with goat on the menu. This was with lemon grass (they also have it grilled), it was a good portion nicely flavoured. I also took away & loved the tofu, aubergine it was very oily but when isn't it but considering garlic was also in the title it wasn't very garlicky, last take away item was the chilli chicken wings they were nice again a goodly.portion but not spicy at all. My flat mate who won't do spicy ate half of them! I ate in lunch (& took home dinner) for lunch I had chicken & noodles. Not exceptional or exciting but very acceptable,- the prices are good, excellent if you compare with some of the other places popping up in Deptford The service is quick and efficient usually by a (Eastern European bloke) and the lady was very nice. You can take your own booze, they don't charge corkage and they give you glasses and an opener. I love the trompe L'oeil on the wall, it's beautifully painted and very restful and calming. I being asked by young lady waitress to pay cash at the end of our meal when we asked for bill . but i didn't had cash . All I had is credit cards. So lady asked me to take cash from my credit card from cash machine near cafe outside crossed the road. I refused because of the commission - (each time taking cash from my credit card, bank charges commission of 6 £ extra) As soon I refused she offered me pay 6 pounds less of entire bill. So when I went to cash machine and took cash from my credit card and payed her. But unfortunately she didn't return to me money back offered promised discount .So as I asked her please give me back the promised 6 pounds (because my bank charged extra commission of my credit card) she started shouting on me saying :go away go away - really shouting in very disrespectful way kicking us out from restaurant and asking us in rude way " where are we from???"- started to humiliate us in racist way. Disrespect us publicly in very unprofessional approach toward us!!! But no where we couldn't see on the door nor inside : Only cash. They just ask us after meal to pay cash and only cash ! So I felt myself so down after eating there and thought its better I not come there just eat home than face such horrible approach!! and cant recommend this place!
