Went into Pret A Manger today on my lunch break. I purchased a ham mustard toastie, a can of sugar coke and a packet of sea salt crisps. I walked over to the counter and noticed a Black male customer complaining to 2 staff members. One of the staff members realised I was waiting and kindly greeted me. Whilst this White male staff member was taking my order. The Black male worker was still talking to the black male customer. Both parties seemed to be annoyed.
The White male worker who was taking my order wrongly assumed I was paying by card and had to go to a different till to get my change (itās always good to ask if a customer is paying by cash or card, instead of assuming). After the Black male colleague noticed this, he looked at me and looked annoyed and he said the following: āsee, this is why I donāt like serving these types of peopleā.
From what I gathered, his heated exchange with the previous Black male customer and then witnessing his colleague interact with another Black customer led him to make the comment: āsee this is why I donāt like serving these types of peopleā.
As a Black woman, I am deeply offended by this comment. I would like the staff member to have a full disciplinary and to also educate himself on internalised racism: the acceptance of negative stereotypes about one's own racial group, hating their own racial group as a result. Furthermore, he needs to be reminded that the character of an individual or group of people is not determined by the colour of their skin.
Indirect racist comments or behaviour should never be tolerated. Irrespective of whether the victims and perpetrator belong to the same ethnicity.
I would like a update on how this matter is going...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOne of the best Pret I have visited! The stock is very well represented filled with more variety than other Prets. I know this as Iāve visited and walked past a handful of Prets from Liverpool Street station and I chose to ignore them for this one whenever Iām in the area around London Docks.
Staff are friendly and attentive. They truly possess the qualities any hiring manager and board members would look for in employees. Shout goes out to the gentlemen with the kitchen uniform attending the cashier this morning at 7.45 am, whom was kind enough to suggest the Feta and Red Pepper Omelette instead of the Veggie Brioche (too many carbs, the omelette is even on MyFitnessPal Fitness, amazing).
Overall, very very clean. Did not visit...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a nice, large coffee shop with plenty of well-spaced tables and big comfy chairs. Iāve always had good service and the staff are friendly and super welcoming. I also bring my own mug/takeaway cup because they only use disposable cups for every order which is not great for a company of this size (why not offer mugs to sit-in customers?). The great thing is that you get 50p off with a reusable cup which is very generous and should incentives more people to use them. The main issues are with higher policy decisions (only using disposable cups) and the wifi, but the day-to-day staff are lovely. Also, note that itās closed on...
