Me and my partner visited last night, we had dinner booked as a treat to celebrate my birthday and with us both being huge fans of Richard Corrigan we had high expectations and it is safe to say reality went beyond those expectations. We arrived early to have a drink on Dickies bar, I had heard great things about the Guinness and it did not disappoint, in fact it has to be the best pint of Guinness I have had here in England.Enjoying our drinks in Dickies bar was extremely relaxing and seeing what was on offer behind the bar I wish we had turned up even earlier. Our start to the evening got even better when we were treated to a brief appearance by Chef Richard Corrigan himself. We just wish we could have had a photo opportunity but we put this down to being somewhat star struck!Being lead to our table for dinner the room was beautifully designed, the lighting just low enough to create a cosy atmosphere and the attentive service from the staff was impeccable. The food itself was another level, starting with langoustine and mackerel which was so fresh and tasty and following that with cod and the steak tornadoes (the steak is without doubt the very best I have EVER had! Tasty, flavourful and literally melt in the mouth) the beef tongue and raviolo accompanying it were exceptional and finished the dish.Having ordered desserts I had the lovely surprise of an additional treat when a chocolate covered creme caramel was delivered from the kitchen. This made a lovely end to an amazing evening at Corrigan's and washed down with an Irish coffee we left the restaurant and found ourselves talking non stop about our experience all the way back to the hotel.I wish to thank all the staff that looked after us for the evening and made my birthday very special and Chef Richard Corrigan should be extremely proud. And we will be returning (and hopefully get that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHonestly,Ā I was very underwhelmed by our visit. We were a table of 6 and had drinks in Dickies first. It was dead, apart from one other couple and the restaurant was the same. Friday night in London and it was dead. I counted four tables with diners in the restaurant including ours. So the atmosphere wasn't good.
We ordered a bottle of Sancerre at the table (along with a bottle of red). Four glasses were for the Sancerre. At this point, we should have been told there was no more of this wine. None. But the Sommelier didn't bother to tell us, and when we did go to order another bottle he told me there was a party in the restaurant the night before and they had most of it, and the last bottle that night went to the table 'over there', and pointed.Ā That's not my problem! He just looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but working. He just could not be bothered. Frankly, he shouldn't have been working. So we ended up ordering the Gavi and went from there, but information is golden, and had we known there was no more than one bottle of Sancerre, we wouldn't have ordered it. Why would we?
The food really wasn't great. I was expecting so much from Corrigans. We all were, but it was just very underwhelming. We had a vat array of most dishes, but really was unimpressed.
It was a very expensive night for what we had and not one member of our party would return. It's a shame, but that's the truth.
Service was ok, but again, there was nothing to write home about. We were all very disappointed in our dinner and Corrigans. We...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCorriganās Mayfair is one of the kind of high end establishments you would expect to find in Mayfair. When there are so many options, you know that you are on the right track when there is a long waiting list and a packed dining room. Corriganās Mayfair was the perfect place to have lunch with a friend.
We were shown to our seats by the excellent waiting staff and this was just the beginning of an amazing lunch. The service was great throughout and the team really made us feel valued. To start, I chose the venison tartare with Jerusalem artichoke and crab apple, which was put together with real style. All of the dishes we had were perfectly balanced with flavours. My friend went for the seared Orkney scallops with cauliflower, vanilla and cocoa, which sounded like a step into the unknown, but tasted divine.
Looking for main courses to match, I opted for the pan-fried truffle gnocchi with mushrooms and leek flowers and it was just amazing. I never wanted the dish to end. My friend has a sweet tooth and decided that treacle glazed mallard with spiced lentil and pomegranate was going to satisfy it. She loved every bite, but we both still had room for dessert. We decided to share the British & Irish farmhouse cheeses.
The dĆ©cor was as divine as the food, and we sat for some time afterwards, taking in the meal we had just consumed. I would return in an instant, as would my friend, so think about Corriganās Mayfair if you are ever in that...
