Had the most awful experience at the Ivy Asia in Mayfair yesterday. I literally had to tell a senior manager in front of everyone because service was that bad! I have been to the Ivy Asia in St Pauls and in Chelsea several times and Iāve never experienced this level of poor customer service at those branches. The Mayfair restaurant should be embarrassed to call themselves a premium dining restaurant.
In terms of the food, I was pleased to see that the chicken was halal and they had some gluten-free options. They had an interesting menu, however, Maki rolls were ridiculously small, not even bite-size, they did not taste fresh or unique. Very disappointed on the sushi front. The table next to me were complaining about the same issue. Overall portion sizes of all the dishes were highly irregular. Some of the main dishes were quite large, whilst others very small yet the price point was similar. They really need to revisit the portion sizes of their food. The steam rice for example, was an extremely small portion, barely enough for one person. I ordered the black cod, which decent sized but nothing particularly different, exclusive or interesting in terms of taste. Also ordered the prawn clay pot, prawns were very small, and the dish lacked salt. The fried chicken dish they had was tasty, but extremely dry, my friend was disappointed with how difficult it was to eat that dish as a main meal, if only the staff informed us that you would need a side sauce or dish to go alongside that.
2.The biggest flaw of the entire evening was when we had not one, but two managers, come up to our table in quite an aggressive manner, scolding us that we had limited time left on the table. We were first told that we had 40 minutes left to eat when the starter had just been brought out. Whilst I appreciate that there is a certain time limit for each customer on a table, the restaurant needs to take responsibility for the time it takes for them to cook and bring out the meals, we were literally rushed to finish our starter and our main meal. I felt like I was in school being told that lunchtime was nearly over. It was extremely rude, and bothersome. Clearly they had overbooked the restaurant to the point that they were just trying to churn out as many customers in the restaurant. It was very tacky, and clearly they had no passion to try and deliver a wholesome dining experience. It had completely ruined our evening, we were interrupted in our conversations on many occasions, which was highly inconsiderate. I spoke to a manager, named, Ciprin and instead of taking on-board my feedback, this manager was exceptionally rude, had a smirk and smug face, and had zero interest in our feedback. Instead, he was demanding that we speak to him with respect as if he was the prime minister of the country! It was embarrassing. I then asked to speak to a senior manager, who was walking all over the restaurant, but took almost a lifetime to come to our table to speak to us. We had to request his āpresenceā several times via the waitress. His name was Marek Cielica. At first, they were adamant to get rid of us, but when it came to providing feedback they seem to completely ignore and avoid us. As I was unable to finish my meal I ofc was not going to pay for the mains the so I told the manager take those of the bill, he gave us a copy of the bill with the service charge - the cheek! No idea why he thought we would be paying service charge, I then called him back to take off the service charge, and he just took the bill from my hands and removed it with no comments. And then, finally, after basically saying if we donāt have the senior manager come right now and speak to us we will not be paying the bill, he finally came over and was just robotically apologetic, clearly he didn't mean it as he didnāt even try to rectify the situation.
Overall, the service was shambolic, it was shocking how rude and oblivious the management were, and quite frankly, I just donāt understand why this restaurant...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy partner booked a special dinner to celebrate my graduation, and while we are loyal fans of The Ivy restaurant line, this particular experience was nothing short of disappointing.
When booking online, we were asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. We are hardcore fans of The Ivy restaurants and know for a fact that they often include personalized desserts with messages like āHappy Birthdayā or āHappy Anniversary.ā Why else would they ask on the booking page? Despite this, there was no acknowledgment of the occasion, no celebratory dessert, and not even a mention of it by the staff, leaving us feeling overlooked and disappointed.
Service: The service was shockingly disorganized. When I asked the waiter how many sashimi pieces were in a portion to decide if it was enough to share, he confidently said 8ā10. It turned out to be just 5āan annoying misrepresentation. The sequence of dishes arriving was even worse. A side dish of rice came first (before starters), then the starters, and only later the mains. By the time the mains arrived, the rice was cold because weād been saving it to pair with the main dish as intended.
When I raised concerns with the waiter about the timing of the dishes, I was told that if I wanted everything served together, Iād have to pay extra. "When it comes, it comes," was the dismissive response. The lack of professionalism or care was glaring.
Food: The food itself was badāborderline inedible in some cases. The kimchi rice starter was overcooked to the point of resembling mashed potatoes or porridge. My partnerās main course, a chicken dish, was bland and uninspiredāhonestly, fast food chains like Nando's or KFC deliver far better chicken at a fraction of the price.
Price and Overall Experience: The bill was unreasonably expensive for the poor quality of food and service. To make matters worse, the waiter didnāt bother to ask the standard āHow was your meal?ā or engage with us at all. When I voiced my dissatisfaction, and straight up said āthe price is a bit ridiculous for one ghe most disgusting diners in my lifeā he blatantly ignored me. Feeling both disappointed and still hungry, we left to have dessert (and more food) at another venue.
The only redeeming quality was the interior decor, but even that didnāt match the standards of other Ivy locationsāparticularly the restrooms, which felt subpar.
Overall Ratings: Food: 2/10 Service: 2/10 Value for Money: 3/10 Interior: 8/10
This was supposed to be a memorable celebration, but it ended up being an overpriced, frustrating, and deeply unsatisfying evening. We have no intention of returning to this location and would caution others to think twice before...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf I could leave one star review I would. Leaving this review on behalf of the bride who booked;
Booking reference #: 118324 On Sunday the 17 December I booked a table for lunch to ask my two friends to be my bridesmaids. This was a very special occasion for me which the restaurant was aware of. After being shown to our table and our order was taken I proposed to my friends with gifts for the occasion. We had ordered Bellinis to celebrate the occasion. Your waiter when serving the glasses to us, somehow dropped 2/3 of the glasses on me and my friend. Both glasses full of beverage fell on us, breaking into pieces and covering us with alcohol and broken shards of glass. Your staff in a panic didnāt know what to do so my friend had to ask for a napkin which they then provided to us. They then started to clean up the spilt beverage from the table as a priority instead of showing us to a new table where we could sit and try to enjoy what was left of a very catastrophic bridesmaid proposal. It wasnāt until I demanded a fresh table that your staff showed us to our new table. Now that I have set the scene of what occurred I will now proceed to tell you about the atrocious service we received: Only one Bellini was served, I had to remind the waiter that we needed two more: We asked for water for the table 3 times before we were served with water, which didnāt come until dessert was served. The manager who approached us to āapologiesā for what had occurred said and I quote āit can happen to anyoneā and āhe obviously didnāt do it on purposeā. The manager then proceeded to OFFER to pay for our dry cleaning if we email him personally and then come BACK to the restaurant with the receipts. This is unacceptable, so not only do I and my friend have to go and get our very nice clothes dry cleaned, but we have to then travel back to the restaurant to get reimbursed??? The food was horrible, we had ordered the waffle and chicken from the brunch menu, the waffles were burnt and dry and cold! Your staff then to add salt to the ever gaping wound took it upon themselves to bring our bill over, without us asking for it and then proceed to point out that they have āDISCOUNTEDā the 3 extra Bellinis they had charged me for, the ones which we never drank as 2 of them were spilt all over us. No other form of compensation was offered, all your staff did was come over and apologies for ruining such a special occasion for myself and my friends. I am absolutely disgusted with this service and will not ever be returning to Ivy Asia Mayfair and have also warned all my friends and acquaintances of...
