We visited this pub on Sunday 27th of July. The pub was apparently showing the UEFA Women's Euro final on TV and we were directed to the furthest corner of the restaurant, even though half of the pub was empty. We all ordered burgers and 3 sodas. The fries were not included in the price but had to be ordered separately. Allso you had to go and get the condiments from the counter separately. Another surprise was that there was no table service.
The next surprise was the quality of the burger. I wondered the taste of the burger and after examining the burger patty, I noticed that it was partly raw. After the day's activities, I was tired, so I just thought that this is probably a local way of preparing a hamburger patty medium like steak. Although I lost my appetite.
After returning from my trip to Finland, I looked at the receipt. The sum was 65.35 pounds and in euros 77.05. Even if the hamburger patty had not been raw, considering the portions, 3 hamburgers+3 fries+3 sodas was quite a steal. In my home country I would have returned the portion back to the kitchen due to the quality.
I feel great shame for this place. Even in my hometown there is a better British pub where you can get a quality whole meat steak portion for the same price if not cheaper than was this hamburger at The Defectors Weld. The place here is called Old Mates (Finland).
Here most large cities have a proper brit pubs and even the British beers are good, as is the food. Overall the beers have a large selection and are guaranteed to be fresh with high quality. Plus good selection of beers from microbreweries. I recommend to skip The Defectors Weld pub whether hungry or thirsty. A...
Read moreThe good news is they serve a couple of DEYA beers on tap and when the food eventually arrived, it was tasty without being anything extraordinary (decent scotch egg, great fries, sausage roll a bit mushy). Decent interior but dirty tables everywhere and it was very busy (but not oppressively so - upstairs had spare tables so all good). The staff though. I felt sorry for the person serving us who clearly hated what they were doing and didn't want to be there. I won't bury them for it - if you need a job you need a job, but at least try a smile and a thank you. The food was also delivered to the wrong floor (we were upstairs), hence a lengthy wait. But it was OK in the end and the surly staff did apologise for the wait. I get the feeling the DW is one of those transitional pubs that doesn't worry about customers at weekends (esp match days) as much as it does during the quieter midweek - wheel 'em in, wheel 'em out perhaps. The menu is 'light bites' orientated, although if you want just a pot of fries, it isn't on the menu as a side option - best ask at the till. I'd give it another chance if we were going to another gig across the road, but there's so much to choose from in the Bush, it might not happen. But the beer choice is reasonable for a Youngs and overall...
Read moreOn hearing the good reviews of this pub, and having to collect my 16 year old daughter and her friend from the O2. Both myself and my wife decided we would collect the girls, after the boy band gig finished at 9.30 and visit this pub to have a few drinks and a bite to eat. It took us over an hour to travel from East London, so we were looking forward to it. The doorman refused the girls entry!! They are 16 and 17, not 6 and 7. They were with 50 year old adults. Not a load of youngsters out together. They were under age to enter! THEY DIDN'T WANT AN ALCOHOLIC DRINK. Just to spend some time with her parents and talk about the great night she had just had. Has this country gone so far wrong that a 16 and 17 year old can't spend some time with adult company!! We don't ever have a problem abroad when we go away. I would like to say the doorman was very polite and pleasant and allowed us to use the toilets, but not the girls. He was following orders. "He didn't make the rules" So I can't really give a higher mark as I can't comment on the food or drink as we didn't get as...
