Went in with my wife. Only one of us was brought food, while the other was left waiting indefinitely, leading to a very unpleasant experience.
Short story long:
My wife and I love Korean and Japanese food, so based on the great reviews we decided to try Dotori.
We went in for a pretty early dinner, when the restaurant was mostly empty. I ordered a bibimbap, while my wife went for the nigiri sushi set. My bibimbap came pretty quickly, but there was no sign of her sushi. So we waited.
In the meantime, some other customers started coming in and ordering. After around 10 minutes, the newly arrived customers were already eating, while I was looking at a now cold bibimbap and a disappointed, hungry wife.
The two waitresses seemed pretty busy serving the other tables without ever acknowledging ours. I eventually managed to pin down a waitress and enquired about the nigiri. I got a very quick and dismissive response while she was still in motion. I failed to fully grasp what she said.
Looking at the kitchen, it seemed like the staff was busy with preparing every possible dish in the menu except my wife's sushi set. At that point, after a wait or roughly 15 minutes, I decided to quickly eat through my bibimbap (which was quite mediocre) and ask for a bill just for what I ate.
To my surprise, the waitress was not surprised. She just replied with a quick 'OK' and immediately brought the bill. We did not get an apology, or an explanation of what happened. Not even a goodbye. We left as if we could have simply got up without paying. I think never in my life I've seen such careless and unprofessional staff at a restaurant.
On top of the fact that this is one of the few remaining restaurants in 2025 that won't accept card payments and I had to go through the effort of procuring myself some cash only to eat here, I truly regret having even contemplated setting foot in this place.
Luckily, there are plenty of great authentic Korean and Japanese restaurants in London that will deliver the food you order (and even let you...
Read moreWhen this place opened we kept on saying we need to try, looks authentic and with good prices. Months went and we could see queues almost every day ! When we finally decided spontaneously to go and try it was a great decision. one downfall is the waiting time. But we have been both times offered the seating downstairs at the sashimi/sushi/maki bar and you have enough space there so only if you don’t like seating high then maybe it’s not the most comfortable. Staff is friendly but I would appreciate a bit more English, just a slightly bit as we saw a nice green bottle in their fridge, I clearly asked “is this a fizzy drink or a juice?” And the girl said “yes juice yes” and then she recommended the grapefruit one. Guys, this was not a juice, it was some sort of liquor, very sweet and of course alcoholic. Worth trying, I don’t mind that we got to try it, however I really wanted a juice 😅 Still giving a 5star nevertheless as it travels you to their cultures and their countries and the food is really good quality ! A must try for any foodie and definitely try some of the raw fish options - sashimi was very good ! Oh and on another note.. if you don’t eat too much per portions .. just so you are aware their main dishes that include rice are big enough which means there might be no much need for many sharing plates but do get some to share and try more flavours.. I think this is my most...
Read moreI really like this Japanese and Korean restaurant. It’s very close to Finsbury Park tube station, just walk for about a minute or two and it's said to be run by a family for about ten years now. Initially, they only had four tables, but now they have two and a half floors, with quirky anime-themed decorations. Here are some of their standout dishes that I ordered and quite like: SCALLOP KATSU: Breaded and fried scallops served with tasty Japanese sauce. Crispy outside, tender inside, it's a fun taste experience. DEOJI BULGOGGI: Spicy pork belly marinated in honey, Korean chilli sauce, and soy sauce. It's a mix of sweet and oily flavours that's hard not to love. YUKHOE BIBIMBAP: Thinly sliced raw beef (or shredded beef) and raw egg yolk mixed with rice in a stone pot. It looks a bit like French dish Steak Tartare but the beef is partially cooked by the hot pot. It tastes really good. The sushi platter is beautifully arranged, with fresh salmon, tuna, sweet shrimp, seaweed, and octopus slices. The sushi is made by the chef with great care, it's a pleasure to watch them being prepared. Their matcha ice cream is a generous portion and has a nice matcha flavour, it's delicious. In terms of London's Japanese-Korean cuisine, personally, it feels quite affordable. £30 per person can get you a...
