So I last visited here on Christmas Day (That was an absolute shambles) but today was also the same! So my boyfriend and I came here for a roast as I thought to give this place another chance (as when I tried the food on Christmas Day, the food was packing with flavour. Not this time though!)I started off my afternoon with ordering drinks our waitress then came back and took our starter orders, I had olives and hummus ( took 30 minutes to come) we ordered a roast which the waitress said they ran out of chicken so we both opted for the beef. My partner asked about the gravy if it contains pork in it, which the waitress then replied âIâm not sure I think soâ a little bit of extra knowledge would of been appreciated as I did explain it was because of religious reasons. After 1 hour and 10 mins our mains came out. They brought out both of our food, both average looking. His came with vegetarian gravy and they brought out beef gravy for me. I did ask again does this contain pork oil etc and the waitress said yes Iâm sure it does, so I politely asked for vegetarian gravy, which then took a further 15 minutes to come out. Half of my beef was bloody and the other half was hard and very difficult to cut. The roast potatoes were dry and had barely any colour to them. The best part of my roast was the cabbage. A waiter came over and apologised and then went on to explain that one of the chefs was due to be fired because of food. I ordered a couple of more drinks, which he got one of them wrong, which was an easy mistake to be made. (I ordered a pink gin and lemonade but he brought over a pink gin and tonic.) Later he said heâd remove our last two drinks off of our bill due to the bad food. ÂŁ85 for a double gin, picante, water and a store bought tasting starter, 2 beef roasts was ridiculous for a meal which I did not enjoy AT ALL and only ate it because I was starving. I now understand why a group watched the tennis and left to find another place to eat. I should of taken that as a sign. Instead I wasted money and ended up having to go to...

A Welcoming and Stylish Backstreet Local.
The Duchess of Kent is situated on a corner at the end of a Victorian terrace on the border between Lower Holloway and Barnsbury in Islington. The nearest Tube is Highbury & Islington, itâs a five minute walk to get here.
The pub was built in 1843 and is Grade II listed. The pub is named after H.R.H. Victoria Mary Louisa, Duchess of Kent, Queen Victoriaâs mother.
This is a good size pub that is set out in an âLâ shape and has a modern contemporary feel. The servery is clad in solid wood panels and is illuminated by classy pendants. The front area of the pub has an eclectic mix of comfy seating and a roaring fireplace, at rear is an area set aside for dining. The walls are painted bold colours and are adorned with a collection of pop art prints. Around the front of the pub are several benches and parasols for the warmer months.
This Youngâs pub serves up a decent selection of beers which included two cask ales. I decided on a pint of Pravha, my pint was excellent, price point was average. There is a classic pub grub menu available with Roasts available on a Sunday, Fish & Chips costs ÂŁ18.
We arrived just after 11am on a Saturday morning in December. We were the first punters in so we could have a good mooch around the pub. Luton were playing Chelsea on the lunchtime kickoff, so we decided to watch a bit of that while we enjoyed our pints. The service was great, we were served by the Guvânor who was welcoming and friendly.
The pub shows live Premier League on TNT and Sky. If you fancy testing your grey matter, there is a Pub Quiz on a Thursday.
Visiting @theduchessn7 was a pleasant experience. Itâs a modern day contemporary pub that is welcoming place to spend time in. The beer line up was on point and not overly expensive, there is plenty of food on offer and if youâre a sports fan youâll be well catered for. This is a solid all rounder which is well worth a visit.

Read moreOur Christmas was ruined due to the lack of Christmas meal we received on Sunday. We prepaid for a four course meal with a glass of bubbles (which was not cheap) arrived at the time of the booking and were waiting for 20 mins before seated. Whilst waiting we were informed by another customer that they had been waiting 2.5 hours and still not received their meals, this was concerning to begin with so we asked if we would have the same issue and were assured we wouldnât. When we were finally seated it was a further 25 minutes before we got drinks, and we had chased them twice at this point, including going to the bar and were told they would bring them however they clearly ignored this request as I had to ask the same lady again later and she turned around and said she wasnât working the floor, but once I said we had been there 45mins and not been served a drink she palmed us off to her colleague. I will say the main waiter was a trooper, with a lack of management assisting him and the female bartender making things his problem, as well as having to deal with angry customers at no fault of his own. We ended up waiting two and a half hours without even receiving the entree before we gave up. During this time another customer bought us knives and forks for the taster we had been served as the wait staff had not, this customer then cleared our plates for us because of how poor the service was. There was clearly something wrong in the kitchen and we gave them the opportunity to be honest up front after having spoken to fellow customers, but weâre blatantly lied to. Extremely disappointed as we could have made our own Christmas meal and had a much better day, but nothing is open on Christmas Day so we preserved only to be let down. Really...
