đ Highbury & Islington đşÂ ÂŁ5.95 Danke Pilsner â¤ď¸ A North London beer loverâs paradise. . The House of Hammerton is located on the ever busy Holloway Road. The nearest tube is Highbury & Islington which is five minutes down the road. . Formerly The Wig & Gown, The House of Hammerton is part of a Victorian terrace that is made up of an eclectic mix of businessâs from a Taxi rank to a Georgian restaurant. There is a bizarre fact attached to this pub, On 4 February 1970, John Lennon and Yoko Ono popped by for a strange publicity stunt, where they arrived with newly shorn heads and a bag of their own hair. They swapped the hair with a local activist for a pair of bloodied Muhammed Ali shorts on the roof of the building. Iâm not sure what âthe messageâ was, maybe hair today gone tomorrow or more importantly, Give beer a chance! Iâll get me coat. đ . The decor here is simple with lots of low level seating. There is a good size servery, it looks like it has been constructed out of railway sleepers which wouldnât look out of place in a log cabin. At the back of the bar is a colourful mural with comfy chesterfield sofas. . This pub belongs to @hammertonbrew brewery which is situated just a mile away. The pub offers a vast selection of beers that hail from the brewery including 20 keg and 4 cask options. After cruising the pumps, if thats a thing! I decided on a Danke Pilsner. This was a new beer to me and I really enjoyed it. There is also a bottle and can shop if you want some bevvies to go. . I visited around 5pm for a few shants on my way to see The Arsenal. The pub had a few punters in sampling the many brews on offer here. The atmosphere was convivial and staff were welcoming. The pub also hosts quiz and open mic nights, check out there insta for upcoming events. . @hammertonhouse is a beer loverâs paradise set in a simple and welcoming environment. The staff really know there stuff and help guide you through the right tipple for you. I visited this pub many times over the years and have to say the latest incarnation is a triumph. . âšď¸ Info correct on...
Read moreRight, sooooâŚI love Hammerton. My husband and I have been coming for years. The beers are superb and the staff always super friendly. Their pub quiz is our favourite (and weâve even won once!). But this review is not about those things or I wouldâve given a full 5 stars.
This review is about the food. The nachos on their ânewâ menu specifically. We ordered them last night on the recommendation of the lovely barmaid (was between those and the loaded fries). I can honestly say they were the worst nachos Iâve ever had. The sour cream and guacamole tasted the same (flavourless) and seemed like they were squeezed out of a tube. They skimped on the cheese and the tortilla chips were obv the last of the bagâŚit was pretty much all tiny pieces/crumbs on the whole bottom layer. If it were me serving I wouldnât have walked out of the kitchen with them!
Overall, not nice to look at and even worse to eat. But eat them I did as I was starving - wouldâve sent them back but I was hangry and desperate for food.
And - obv the photos on the ânew menuâ cards are stock photos, which is a shame as those nachos looked amazing!
TL:DR: Avoid the nachos at the...
Read moreThey show a sign by the door advertising "Comfort food inside"... what a lie. The first surprise for us was that they do not have almost half of the plates in the menu. The second surprise was that you have to wait for it for 50 min. The third surprise was that they bring the wrong food before making us wait even more for the correct one. The fourth one was that the £9 burger is similar to the McDonald's one in size and quality, and don't even try the chips... for some reason they are super spicy. Even us, used to spicy food finished crying. And the fifth one was that after all they didn't even apologise for the lateness and the mistake with the food. Not coming...
