Everyoneās worst nightmare is to go to a bar, to enjoy a little dance, only for a group of strangers to start making fun of you, impersonating you and laughing at the way you danceā¦even though youāre simply trying to have a little dance without drawing attention to yourself.
This is exactly what happened to me at the āEast Putney Tavernā last weekend. My boyfriend took me to this bar for a drink and a little dance, to celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately my boyfriend couldnāt join me on the dance floor because heās recovering from a sports-related hamstring muscle injury.
So I went onto the dance floor alone, while there was live music playing on a Saturday evening. As soon as I started dancing, a man in his late 20s came over to me, and started humiliating me by impersonating how I was dancing, while laughing at meā¦and then gesturing over to his matesā¦a group of men in their late 20sā¦.and also 3 womenā¦in their late 20s.
The whole group of strangers started laughing at meā¦and the instigator male who first started tormenting me⦠began moving ever closer into my personal spaceā¦.constantly embarrassing and humiliating me by impersonating me while I was trying to have a little dance on my birthday.
The male would make exaggerated, erratic, spasmodic movementsā¦as if to say this is what I looked like while I was dancing⦠while starting right at me. Even worse, as I tried to escape from the man, he followed me around the dance floorā¦.moving ever closer into my personal spaceā¦continually making wild jerky movementsā¦as if to say this is how awful I looked while dancingā¦and then he would laugh out loud. Then he would gesture over to his male friends and the two womenā¦who would join himā¦& they would all mock and humiliate me in hysterics of laughterā¦while continually encouraging and egging on the instigator male⦠who continued to follow me whenever I tried to get away from him.
If I stopped dancingā¦this man would also stop, enter even closer into my personal space, stare at meā¦. and start laughing uncontrollably at me.ā¦accompanied by his mates.
If I ignored the male and dared to dance againā¦the man continued to follow me, invading my personal space, stare into my eyesā¦while impersonating my dancing in yet more frenzied and grotesque movementsā¦to humiliate me even more, while his male mates and the two ladies continued to laugh ever louder, encouraging the instigator all the timeā¦until I was on the verge of crying. And so I tearfully left the dance floor feeling extremely depressed, anxious humiliated, degraded and ridiculed. I couldnāt stop crying all the way home on the night bus.
The musician playing live music saw all of this yet he did nothing. Customers on the dance floor, or sitting at tables near the dance floor, also witnessed all of this at the East Putney Tavern and did nothing.
The manager & bar staff turned a blind eye. This bar does not bother to employ security staff to protect women and other vulnerable customers. My doctor has since started me on depression / anxiety tablets after this nightmare incident at The East...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhat a rollercoaster of a journey. Choose the book a table here for a roast as they offered a vegan roast. Never been before but on arrival, we were not excited by the exterior and wondered what we were walking into to. However was pleasantly surprised walking through the door. Standard pubs vibe, nothing particularly special but not disastrous as we original thought it might be. I had booked online however they could not find my booking, never mind they got us a table and the young man seating us was pleasant he offered us drinks but I asked for a minute as we hadnāt sat down yet nor looked at the menu. He was polite back and said he āIāll give you 4 mins - I am nice like that.ā I think he was being overly generous because he never returned to take our order nor have any part of our service throughout the time we were in there. About 25 mins had passed and we actually had to flag down a young lady to take our order. Mine seemed seemingly straight forward. The menu consisted of 2 courses for Ā£25 so I went for the only vegan option they had for starters - hummus and flatbread, and the wellington for the main - I asked for the vegan roast. Thinking that would be enough to describe my dietary needs. My partner asked for the pork roast, however the waiter explain she thought they might be out of that but would check. My partner said if not he will go for the chicken pie. He also asked for the prawn cocktail starter, but they were out of that too. The waiter returned from the kitchen after a few minutes and said they had neither the pork roast or the chicken pie available. Never mind, he ordered the beef roast instead. 3rd time lucky. After about 10 mins - not long at all. My roast AND my starter came to the table. Iām not sure why it was called a starter if it was delivered at the same time. My partners food was nowhere to be seen. I had to tell the waiter that there was a Yorkshire pudding on my plate ( not vegan), she apologised and took it back. Moments after my partners roast appeared and shortly after that his starter. Meaning by the time he had eaten his starter the main was cold. I was still waiting for my food to arrive. It arrived approximately 20 mins after it had been taken. By this point my partner has basically finished his food. With that being said the food was lovely, well seasoned and the portions were decent. The waiter told us my dinner would be on the house. Lovely. Anyways overall not sure how I truly feel about this experience it was a LOT. But ultimately the service and mistakes made ruined the experience. Not entirely sure if Iād come back again. Also Ā£80 bill and a free dinner? Not sure how...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCame here for dinner with friends. We were greeted gruffly and told we had to put on masks to walk to our table. We were then told we couldn't dine with our dog in the restaurant, even though we had pre booked and been told it was no problem to bring him. After checking with the other diners we were allowed to bring the dog with us.
We ordered hummus to start, which came with nuts on it, despite not being marked as such on the menu. One of our party had a nut allergy so we politely asked if we could have a dish without the nuts sprinkled on top, but we were told it wasn't possible and that we should have been clear that we had allergy in the group (we were not asked and to be honest we weren't expecting hummus to come with nuts).
The main menu only had 5 options which could have meant those 5 dishes were done really well, but we were seriously disappointed. The cheeseburger was overcooked and had so much mustard on the bun that you couldn't taste anything else, and the chips were way too salty.
Our waitress was nice but overall not a great experience and we...
