I went to Elysees about 10 days ago with friends on a Friday night. When we arrived we were seated at a very squashed, very thin table close to the manager and one of the connecting doors. We asked to move to an adjacent table next to us that was empty and told it was not possible as this table was booked. Just to point out that when we left around 11:30pm, the table was still empty and one of the ladies at our table was cold most of the night as her seat was next to the connecting door allowing access to the roof top. We just about had to beg someone for drinks to get started. We were told at this point that there was a technical fault in the kitchen and the grills were not fully operational. We had decided to go with the £45 full meze experience. After waiting for a good half an hour, I asked both the manager and the waiter if we could at least be served the starter meze which arrived about 10 minutes later. The food itself was decent and we were all starving at that point. Once completing the starter meze (to avoid waiting even longer for the grilled meats) we asked the manager if we could rather have another round of the starter meze. This at least meant we would get more food quickly and avoid waiting for the grill. I feel that at this point it would have been good to point out to us that apparently 2 portions of starter meze is the same price as the whole meze menu which includes a variety of grilled meats and a dessert. Just to clarify - 5 of us paid £225 for 2 sets of meze starters meaning 2 small plates of the following - 3 different dips, pita bread, grilled halloumi, fried calamari, grilled prawns, beetroot salad, lamb meat balls, dolmades, spanakopita and grilled sausage. After querying this a few days later with the restaurant, I was informed that we were charged correctly and that's it. Honestly I eat out a lot in London and it's just not okay to charge people £45 a head for starters (unless you're Michelin starred and even then it's a lot!) especially when they are opting for this to avoid waiting even longer for more food. Was it a fun night out yes except for having to chase for every drink and plate of food. The entertainment was fun and we were happy to pay the cover charge for this. After the whole experience, all of us were a little put out and won't be going back. There are so many other places in London were you can have fun without feeling like you're being...
Read moreDO NOT GO HERE! Over exspensive food & drink (cheapest house wine which was horrible was £32 a bottle) a single Gordon's gin was £12 without the mixer. Cocktails were nice but you had to ask for them at least 4 times & some took over an hour to arrive others never did but were ALL added to the bill. Food was below average & for the price I was more than disappointed overcooked meat with no seasoning and all the dishes looked the same. You couldn't tell the difference between the souvla & the souvlaki. I couldn't even eat it and left 80% of my meal. Not once were we asked if everything was okay & to our standard. Not even salt & pepper was on the table & even though we we're told to pre order (group of 8) they still had to spend 20 minutes going over the orders when we sat down & they still cocked it up when bringing out the food. Asked for condiments with the starters a pot of mayonnaise took 25 minutes to get to the table. Cheap entertainment although the smashing of the plates was fun my friends toe was cut open & no concern shown also rather dangerous no safety precautions in place & a lot of drunk men & broken porcelain doesn't bode well. And then at around 10pm a group of men showed up they moved all tables as though they were VIPs with no consideration to paying customers & let them smoke cigars inside the venue which is not only illegal but caused many of us to feel sick & left stinking of smoke. When it came to paying the bill they did not add it up correctly & we ended up paying twice two separate amounts after we had to do all the calculating then we were left waiting another half hour before they finally came to collect the rest of the money as we all up & went to leave. This was for a friends birthday also & they brought out a slice of cake with a candle in to celebrate whilst the lady sung happy Birthday which was nice but then they took the slice of cake away as soon as she blew the candle out. You feel as though you will be charged to breath in this place it's a joke & the staff apart from one waiter were all very rude. The night was £100 each & I can honestly say it's the most disappointing £100 meal I have ever had from start to finish. Save your money & go spend it somewhere where not only will you leave satisfied but have had...
Read moreThis hidden gem behind Tottenham Court Road is an excellent place for dinner parties and late night drinks. It is a well established Cypriot Greek restaurant spread over two floors of a terraces building that boasts live music, a night club and an outdoor Shisha Garden. Nights out here are a hit and miss, but if you're hosting a big group they're always accommodating, and if you're looking for somewhere to have a drink and perhaps a Shisha this is a great place.
The restaurant is always full and very lovely, they normally have a live band performing and they have the traditional plate breaking of Greek restaurants (plates start at £25/20 plates... But this can be negotiated if you're buying a lot of plates). The food is good, and they have a set menu, however, it is meat based and will fill you before mains arrive. It is pricey, but you get good value for your money. I believe they also have rooms for private parties and private dining available on enquiry.
The nightclub/bar is open til late and the DJ tends to follow the vibe of the night. However, it does end like every Greek club with Greek music and servilletes all over the place. Their prices are reasonable and the bar staff are friendly and helpful.
The outdoor terrace/Shisha Garden. Being one of the only places serving Shisha and alcohol late in Central London, they command high prices for their Shisha.. starting at £55. Given the price, you would expect the Shisha to be amazing, but it is not. It is acceptable, but this aspect could do with a revamp. It has a great atmosphere and is normally always full, so its hard to get a table unless you book. They have a lot of staff overlooking this area and at times they can be a bit rude and unfriendly, but given what they have to deal with it is understandable to a degree.
Overall it is a happening place with a lot to offer just behind Tottenham Court Road. I would always recommend this place as an option for a low-key night or for...
