First of all, I've never given a one star rating to a pub in my life, before.
So, we were a big group of 20 in 2 tables, and some people ordered at the bar instead of at the tables. This apparently confused the staff, and at the end of the day we were over-charged by 60 pounds. I realised it a bit too late.
Basically, we were stopped at the door while trying to leave, so we came back to cover for the extra amount asked, thinking we would sort it later on between us.
Then, we went through the extra charges in the receipt given to us and realised MOST items were there as a mistake. For example: I was the only one who ordered steak and ale pie, and I had paid for it. However there was still a steak and ale pie on the final receipt given to us.
Even more, the pie disturbed my stomach badly the whole night, I thought I was poisoned (no I didn't drink at all, and hadn't had food for 4 hours prior to that), and when this was mentioned to the bar staff, they couldn't have cared less (ignored the comment, completely).
So, its a nice pub to go for a drink, with a friend or two, but that's it. Don't sit to have food, especially with a large party.
Edit after a long time, after seeing the response below: The owner says we were 45 minutes late. Wrong, we weren't. It was a birthday party, so some people were late of course. But how can you imagine everyone being 45 minutes late? And in any case, this has nothing to do with what happened. A simple apology would have...
Read moreBeen there twice while visiting London from the states. First time was excellent. It was Sunday and my mother had their Sunday Beef roast which was tender and juicy, their veggies plentiful and tasty, and potatoes creamy. I had the Steak and Ale Pie was crust was flaky and buttery, and meat tender and you can taste the ale. The server there was sweet and helpful, very nice. We came early in the evening, pub was clean and well maintained, very comfortable had a typical English pub feel. Would have given 5 stars if not for the second time. This time we came later, very busy, busting out the seams almost, didn’t have a table for us at first, so we went out in the cold, could not find any other places open that we wanted so we came back hoping to wait for a table to open, then we spotted the server that helped us the first time and she found us a table. My mother had the Beer Battered Haddock (fish was tender and batter was light and crispy) and I had the Slow Cooked Rabbit Casserole. I felt everything was over cooked on my dish, the dumplings were almost too hard to be edible and the rabbit tasted fine but felt tough. The server was very accommodating and gave us our tea on the house since we were repeats. Honestly felt like 4.5 stars. Would recommend, especially the Sunday Roasts and their Pies but be aware of busy hours in the evening if you want to...
Read moreWent on a very busy Thursday afternoon around 2pm. There was a sign saying please wait to be seated but when a member of staff approached the sign where we were waiting she seemed perplexed when we asked for a table. When we were sat and had chance to watch her work it appeared the whole concept of serving people was perplexing to her. After that the experience at The Jack Horner improved 100%. A lovely man came to take our order and the food that arrived was great. My daughter had fish and chips, a dish which has often disappointed in London as its hard to beat our local Yorkshire F&Cs but she thought they were good, the fish tasty and well fried. My sister and I had several sharing plates between us - Mushroom Pate (smooth and so mushroomy), Pulled beef and cheese nuggets (lush tasting), Cauliflower Pakora (this is THE best way to eat cauliflower, was tasty, crispy and perfectly matched with the coronation dip), Marmite Roast Pots (OMG these were beautiful, you dont need to like Marmite to eat these, they just taste savoury), Braised Leeks and Hispi Cabbage (really good) and Heritage Carrots and Beetroot (what isnt great about carrots and beetroot!). Good choice of drinks, possibly a wait at the bar but...
