On entry we headed towards the counter told one of staff, we had a booking for a party of 9, was told our table was upstairs to the right, expected the staff to escort us to our table, but I guess they were too lazy to do so.
Food and drinks ordering was simple, there's a device on each table that has buttons to call the server, receiving our food and drinks was a nightmare, don't go there extremely starving or thirsty, as the food and drinks takes ages to arrive, you could walk to deptford and back and still the food wouldn't be ready, once the drinks came, expect them to come in stages, drink 1 came first, 2 mins after drink 1 came drink 2, 5 mins after drink 2 came drinks 3-6, and finally drinks 7-9 followed 7 mins later, the food came in stages, food 1-2 came 1st, 10 mins later came food 3-4, 7 mins after food 3-4 came food 5-7, 8 mins after food 5-7 came food 8 and 5 mins after food 8 came food 9
We were served by a server called funlola, let's say there was no fun in her name, she was rude, we also had for a brief moment, with one of her colleague a young short guy with short afro hair, he also came across rude.
After our meal, we called a server for attendance and the short afro hair guy came to us, we requested plastic containers to put the leftover food in, was told it would cost £1 per container, we asked to see the container, and the guy went to get them, 15 mins later there was no sign of the guy instead funlola appeared, told her we would like to see the containers and would also like the table cleared, suddenly the guy appeared with the small, not worth the £1 charge containers, informed him they were too small and if they had any bigger ones, he didn't say anything but instead storms off complaining to funlola, anyway before funlola left us, we asked if she could clear and clean the table and bring up the birthday cakes lit with candles, after she left, one of our party guess in the meantime decided to go to a shop across the road and managed to purchase large containers, twice the size of enish food containers at 20p per container, so if you require food containers, get them from the store across the road, 10 mins later funlola and her colleague appeared with the cakes, but no containers, they wanted to light the candles on a table that was still dirty with used plates, told her she needed to clear and clean the table, she left to returned 5 mins later to do so, once she left we realised she didn't bring a knife for the cake, nor bowls and spoons, we rang for her attention, when she appeared, we politely requested a knife, bowls and spoons, she left and didn't return for a while, one of our party member decided to walk towards the large group, to seek any form of cutlery, luckily there was a clean knife and spoon in a napkin available, which wasn't used by one of the guess from that table, 15 mins later, there was still no sign of funlola, we called for her service as this was becoming ridiculous, how can she supply a cake with no knife, bowls or spoons, did she think we were from the 1st century where culterly weren't invented then? Did she expect us to cut the cake with an imaginary knife and then eat it with our bare hands? When funlola finally appeared, we requested to see a manager, first she said there wasn't a manager working, then when quizzed on this, she changed her answer to the manager was busy, how convenient for a manager to mysteriously not be available to then becoming too busy to show his or her presence to a disappointed party group, knew she wasn't telling us the truth but decided not to press on as we were eager to leave asap, funlola left to return with what seemed like 20 mins later with 5 bowls and spoons, we were a party of 9, so I guess she wanted the remaining 4 guess to wait in line for one of the other 5 guess to finish and pass over their used bowls and spoons.
Called for bill, funlola bough it and left, called her again and asked if deposit had been deducted, funlola made no communication with us, even after the bill was...
Read moreSunday evening (2nd December) I was excited to take my Caribbean partner to an African restaurant as he had not had much African cuisine before. So I was excited to show him what African food was all about and how tasty it is! On arrival we were seated down by a gentleman who gave us a menu. After looking through the menu I could not see the grilled fish so I asked the waitress (in single plait braids extensions) who was nearby politely where it was in the menu. However, her manner was completely off. She huffed and puffed - like to say that we was disturbing her from wiping the table next to us and firmly said “it’s on the page near the back!” However, I still could not see it so I ask her if she could please show me. She stopped what she was doing looked up, breathed in heavily and gave me one dirty look!!! She opened a menu from the table she was cleaning and pointed harshly saying “it’s on this page!” I could not believe what I was seeing... this was not customer service!!! My partner quickly picked up on how aggressive she was and suggested if we should leave? I reinsured him she will not ruin our dinner date so we should stay. It was time to order so I pressed the bell button given on the table and slowly I saw her approaching. I knew it was not going to be a good experience from the look on her face like she did not want to serve or be in the restaurant! Mid order my partner wanted to know how many portions of plantain came as a side so he could know whether to order two portions or not. I asked this waitress if she knew she shrugged her shoulders and said I don’t know and then stood in silence. I continue to asked her is there any way she could find out she said “why? It’s normal portion”... having to ask her again she finally got on to the headset she had in her ears to ask and answered! At that point I was sick and tired of her stinking attitude as again she was being rude for no reason and it was very embarrassing as I was trying to show my partner about my African culture. I decided to let her know she was very rude and if she didn’t want to be at work then she should have stayed at home! She replied back saying do you want me to get someone else to serve you then? We agreed, she walked off but mid shop floor where customers were she started explaining to a colleague what had happened. A slim young lady approached with a grey basketball hat and apologised on behalf of her colleague. She took our order and gave us great service throughout. I don’t know what was that waitresses problem but she should not be in front of house customer service! I’ve worked in hospitality industry in bars and restaurants for 10 years and I’ve never seen such bad attitude. It’s such a shame because the food is nice but she completely let down the whole team!!! We will not be returning back!!! P.S I will be posting all over social media - her attitude is absolutely disgusting, it’s the worst service we’ve ever had and customers...
Read moreBe vary wary of this place if you are a vegetarian or if you have any allergens! They claim to have a vegetarian menu however it is clear they have no regard for their diners preferences. I explained in great detail to the waitress that I don't eat meat and I don't eat fish, in fact I don't eat anything that used to be alive and I asked her specifically if the beans listed on the vegetarian menu was made with meat or fish (because I know my people), she replied "it's vegetarian, so no". About half a hour to 40mins later our food came and I was flabbergasted at what I saw. As someone who knows how to cook very well, especially simple beans and plantain, I struggled to get my head around just how lazy and lacking in standards a chef would need to be to present this dish in such a way. This lazy chef boiled the beans plain, then tipped what looked like a whole small jar of Ghanaian Shitto over it, smeared it around a bit then delicately encircled it with plantain around the sides. Then this nice but dim waitress carried this excuse of a dish (with the scent of crayfish wafting up her nose)to her vegetarian diner. Even if this chef had simply mixed the beans with some ordinary seasoned tomato and pepper that would have been acceptable, but shitto?!? Then the waitress tried to put the onus on me for ordering the dish stating "oh but I thought you would know it had fish in there since you were ordering it". I then reminded her of our initial conversation & the fact I had ordered it from the vegetarian menu. I pointed out that that was not the way any African country traditionally makes the dish, especially not Nigeria or Ghana where shitto comes from. Needless to say the duty manager was called, he apologised & offered to have the dish re-made. As I didn't have a spare hour I declined & thought myself fortunate that I had also ordered jollof rice so I wasn't completely starved, however when I think about it, that was probably made with meat too. When the bill came, they had charged us for the plantain that encircled the slop as my hubby had eaten most of it - some apology! It's very unusual for me to complain like this online, but I feel the poor service, high price point & disgusting food warrants it. I've been there 4 times in total and with the exception of once, the service has been poor every time. It was my first experience of the food at a friends birthday party at this restaurant that made me return. Unfortunately they have never managed to live up to that standard again. I shall definitely NOT be returning there again. If I could rate this experience a...
