After being disappointed by McDonald's on more occasions than I can count, I decided to give Five Guys at King's Cross a try while waiting for my train. I’d heard mixed things about the brand some people love it, others say it’s overrated, so I wasn’t expecting much. Honestly, I’d have been happy with just a hot meal that tasted a bit fresher than the usual fast‑food options. But once I stepped inside, I was completely taken by surprise. The first thing that struck me was how open the whole setup is. You can actually see your food being cooked right in front of you, and all the ingredients are clearly displayed in the store. It immediately gives you that sense of transparency and freshness that most fast‑food places lack.As for the food itself outstanding. The burger was freshly made, juicy, and seasoned perfectly. The skin‑on fries were crisp, golden, and full of flavor. And the milkshake? Easily one of the best I’ve ever had. Mine was banana flavored, and it actually had real pieces of banana blended in, not just syrup or artificial flavoring.Honestly, this visit changed my opinion completely. Five Guys sets a new standard for burgers, and I’ll definitely be visiting my local...
Read moreDisgusting. This was my first Five Guys, and as you may have guessed, my last. The female member of staff who greeted me helpfully explained that there was one vegetarian burger option, which they call a sandwich. She assured me that it was nice. Unfortunately, she didn't explain that Five Guy's logic of providing a meat free alternative meant simply stuffing a burger bun with a bunch of toppings like it was 1989. Seriously, the result resembled a school trip vomiting incident in a bun. Not only that, but they somehow managed to ruin the chips with the 'Cajun' powder which tasted more like a crumbled Oxo cube mixed with industrial levels of salt. 3 days after the experience and I still feel violated. To make matters worse, at collection they first forgot to even provide my ordered drink, then after being reminded they realised it wasn't even in stock. The replacement was an inferior product and not what I wanted; had I known this at the point of ordering, I wouldn't...
Read moreI had a burger and chips. The burger came as a double, which I think is standard, and as per the Five Guys way, I chose my toppings and condiments to make a burger that was perfect for me. Awesome chips - nice and crispy on the outside, with skin on. Friendly staff. Toilets were pristine, which I always take as a good indicator for the cleanliness behind the scenes. They use peanut oil and serve complimentary peanuts, so I think those with peanut allergies should definitely avoid (though it's a shame you'll miss out!) For those wondering if they have time to get a Five Guys before their train: I had just over 20 minutes before my train from King's Cross, and I had just enough time to get my train with a brisk walk back to the station. I think I got lucky to be served straight away (though I had to wait for the burgers to cook), so I'd recommend at least 30 mins to be safe. Five Guys is a bit pricey, more than I thought it would be, but worth the money as an...
