After my experience at this hotel I would not recommend. The person on the front desk, who said he was the manager has ZERO customer service or interpersonal skills. Prebooked this room about a week before. I was flying in from France and landed to a voice message from hotel. The person said . ..Card declined, phone us in 10 minutes or room is canceled! I rang them when I landed as soon as I heard the message. I was told room was already cancelled. I said I'd informed the hotel it was going to be a late check in and I was flying so didn't get the mesage and said I would give him the card details right then. He asked where I was and basically told me to hurry up and he would hold the room. I got there as quickly as I could and the man then told me that the room would now be £15 more than I had booked!! I know it's not a huge amount more but it was them who cancelled, not me. I said I wouldn't pay that and he got quite hostile with me, saying I won't find another hotel. I told him I didn't like being scammed. He was extremely rude, wouldn't let me talk and was very aggressive in his tone, yet accused me of not letting him talk! I was very upset and said I'd rather sleep on the street than give money to this hotel now. I left and booked another hotel. He then rang me about 15 minutes later saying come back the room will be the original price. I told him at this point that it wasn't about the price now it was about his awful attitude. I had a booking for the next week also which I have cancelled. I told him because he tried to make a quick buck out of me they lost 2 bookings. I do not like being taken for a mug. On the terms of service avoid this place at all costs!! Not once did I get a simple apology for the way I was treated! I cannot comment on what the rooms are like obviously, but if they are anything like the...
Read moreA Comically Cramped but Charming Stay at the European Hotel Oh, the European Hotel—where the rooms are so tiny you’ll wonder if they were designed for hobbits, but the staff’s kindness is so big it could fill a cathedral! I booked a night here expecting a cozy European vibe, and boy, did I get cozy—my room was so small I had to step outside to change my mind. The bed was basically a suggestion, and I’m pretty sure my suitcase had to sleep in the hallway. If you enjoy playing human Tetris to get to the bathroom, this place is your jam. But let’s talk about the staff—absolute angels in aprons! These folks were so helpful I half-expected them to carry me to my room like a royal palanquin. Need directions? They’ll draw you a map. Forgot your toothbrush? They’ll probably offer to brush your teeth for you. Their smiles were so genuine I forgot how to frown, and their cheerfulness was contagious enough to make me want to hug the front desk (which, by the way, was bigger than my room). Now, the shower situation: it was clean, sparkling even, until I spotted the mold in the corner, staging its own little fungal rave. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but I did wonder if I should’ve brought a hazmat suit or at least some bleach to DJ the cleanup. Other than that, the room was spotless—seriously, you could eat off the floor (not that there was much floor to work with). Would I stay again? Heck yeah! The staff’s warmth and the hotel’s charm outweigh the moldy shower cameo and the room’s attempt to set a new record for "smallest square footage." Just pack light, bring a can of Lysol, and prepare to make friends with the walls. Four stars for the heart, minus one for the shower’s...
Read moreWe stayed at the European Hotel for 6 nights during our trip from France, and here’s our experience:
Positives:
Reception and staff: The check-in process went smoothly, and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Special mention to the cleaning staff, who were always friendly and accommodating.
Location: The hotel’s location is fantastic—very central and close to King’s Cross station, making it incredibly convenient for getting around London.
Bed comfort: The beds were comfortable, which was a plus after long days of exploring.
Negatives:
Room size and condition: The room was extremely small, with barely enough space to move around. There was no storage at all, and the wardrobe had an unpleasant smell, which made it unusable.
Bathroom issues: The bathroom was tiny and not enjoyable to use. The shower had a motion sensor for the lights, which turned off randomly while showering. The water pressure was very low, and during peak hours, the water was lukewarm at best.
Cleanliness and overall condition: While the rooms and common areas were generally clean, the hotel itself is very old. The furniture is damaged, dust has accumulated in places, and the hallways smell of age and cigarette smoke. The single-glazed windows let in the cold, and there was absolutely no soundproofing—you could hear neighbors talking (or shouting) and even using the bathroom.
Conclusion:
As visitors from France, we came to London expecting a certain standard, even for budget accommodations. Unfortunately, this hotel was quite disappointing. We would only recommend it to those on a very tight budget. If you can afford it, we strongly suggest looking for better...
