We visited this café/restaurant around 11 AM and were seated right away. From the moment we arrived, the staff seemed unfriendly, almost as if our presence was an inconvenience. Despite this, we ordered breakfast, coffee, and soft drinks and asked if we could work on our laptops. They agreed but mentioned they might ask us to put away our laptops if it got busy, which we found reasonable.
However, throughout our visit, the atmosphere remained unwelcoming. While other guests received friendly service, we were met with coldness—no smiles, no basic manners, and a general feeling that we were not wanted. It’s shocking behavior from hospitality staff.
When we arrived, the table wasn’t reserved, and no one mentioned a later booking. Yet, at 1:30 PM, a waiter abruptly placed a “reserved” sign for 1:45 PM, giving us barely any notice before essentially pushing us out. We had been ordering food and drinks the entire time, so it wasn’t as if we were just taking up space.
To top it off, we paid £47 for two breakfast buns, two coffees, and two soft drinks (including service charge), despite receiving some of the worst service we’ve ever experienced. The food was decent—nothing special—but the treatment we received completely soured the experience.
If you’re looking for a warm and welcoming environment, I’d steer clear. But if you’re after an overpriced flat white and the feeling of being unwelcome, this might just be the...
Read moreAs a local who lives nearby I like to support local business. I went to Franks for late lunch one day and it was ruined by terribly ill-mannered staff. When I entered, there was no greeting or trace of a smile from the staff. I thought the staff wasn't happy to see me because I came 45 minutes before closing so I enquired if it was ok to order. She answered with a curt tone. I ordered my food and drink, and when she brought my drink, there was a red lipstick stain on the rim of the cup. I showed the stained cup to the staff, she inspected it and without any gesture of apology and saying sorry, with an impassive, cold face, "I'll get you new one". I thought I don't want to waste my money here so told her, "Ok, forget it - I don't feel like eating here". She then replied with an annoyed face, saying "That's fine".
I'm astounded that such an ill-mannered person working as waiting staff in a local brunch restaurant which relies on warm, friendly service and charm which is crucial to maintaining loyal customers. Well, it was just a very...
Read moreFrank Canteen is a neighborhood favorite that nails the balance of cozy vibes and inventive, satisfying dishes—perfect for a relaxed weekend brunch or lunch with friends. Though the space is on the smaller side, it feels welcoming and usually has room for a few more, making it easy to drop in without too much wait.
The menu rotates often, and it’s clear the kitchen loves to experiment with fresh, creative flavors. My top recommendation is their huevos rancheros, which is always packed with bold, vibrant ingredients and just the right level of spice. It’s one of those dishes that keeps you coming back!
The staff here are incredibly attentive and kind, always checking in with a warm smile. You can feel they genuinely care about making your experience great, adding to the already inviting atmosphere. If you’re after a spot that combines fresh, inventive flavors with a friendly, local vibe, Frank Canteen is a true gem for brunch or a casual weekend meal....
