Fuller's Ale & Pie House — Restaurant in London

14/06/2024: Popped in for a bite to eat lunchtime as this Fuller's pub Butcher's Hook & Cleaver was convenient before we took a jaunt round Clerkenwell and Little Italy and had one last lingering look at Smithfields Market before it goes! We love this part of London and have many happy memories here. We returned for an early dinner and ordered a chicken breast burger and fries and a Caesar salad with chicken for an extra £4 and a side of chips. Let's say the chicken was wanting. The extra side of chips was only ordered because my husband had wanted Chicken Kiev that came without chips so we thought we'd order a portion between us. But they had no more Kievs and we forgot, and were not reminded, about the extra chips! Hey ho. Along with a bottle of white Pino Grigio the bill came to £70.45. Fine except they tried to charge a 12.5% service charge...for a pub! ...for a bogstandard meal in the bar area! ...where you had to get up and go to the other end of the bar to fetch glasses of water yourself!! Nice pub, looks like an hotel as well. It's on the south bank at the end of Blackfriars bridge. It is only a short stroll from the Tate Modern so I was surprised the it was so quiet. The beer was good and we decided to lunch here. Has a wide choice of fare on offer and my brother was well pleased with his burger. I opted for a ploughman's lunch and was expecting at least a doorstep of bread with a big chunk of cheddar, pickled onion and butter maybe tarted up a bit as most places seen to do these days. We'll look for yourself! No ploughman ever got within a spit of anything like this. There was no cheese. We came to eat because we saw the reviews were good. We had to wait because the dining area was full even though the reservations were not until over one hour later. The manager came by and let us sit at the table. We got the black bean burger and the Angus burger. Neither had much flavor at all. The bean burger was vegetables mushed and few beans, honestly it was one of the worst if not the worst I've had. It was like eating boiled vegetables on a bun.
