The Old Red Cow is a friendly, authentic British pub-- but it's not for a quiet tete-a-tete.
Fran and I were able to book a table by phone( be careful you use the correct website) and were able to secure a table for two at 6.30pm. Plenty of time to get to a nearby concert at 8.
I'd eaten before there with a group, and knew the layout -- two floors, but not much space.
Food came in time ( a plus) as we ordered chicken and beef pies as soon as we sat down. They tasted fine, although the carrots that came with it were tasteless -- possibly steamed, with no finishing sauce.

Good pigs in blankets though.
Christmas pudding was next after a very long wait and that was also perfectly good. There were 2 tables of ten in the upstairs room and no one else, so I’m not sure if the kitchen was too small to cope. Probably 4 stars for the food, but losing one for the...
