Beautiful new Gail’s in the old home of Brick House (a previous East Dulwich institution). While Gail’s is a chain, it’s one heck of a good one, and this is perhaps their best branch yet. A beautiful industrial building that’s been renovated to keep some shabby chic styling while also feeling warm and welcoming. The staff are really friendly and there’s plenty of space for large groups as well as spots for popping in on your own to kill some time. It’s probably worth mentioning that Gail’s does amazing baked goods and their cinnamon buns are to die for. They’ve got some good coffee (also see Bon, Spinach, and Oru Space for good coffee on lordship lane). Beautiful spot, delicious pastries, good coffee… what more could you want?!

Following my last visit in desperation I visited again. Just wanted soup and a roll. No soup available. So round the corner to Trinco who had lovely pumpkin soup. My custom was not avsilable to Gail's. . .. the following is my last visit. No working Aircon. A sort of brilliant British surly service. Slow. It's a weird mix of artisan bakery with naff caff service without the charm of an independent naff caff where the owner is pleased to see you. No one here is pleased to see you. Tea served on a grubby cup. Milk in a chipped and grubby jug. I won't be back despite it's huge convenience to me. I have filled out the form in response to your request. But it is odd how you want us to do the quality control for you.

I live in the same road as your branch in East Dulwich and as I walked past this evening I encountered piles of rubbish on the pavement outside the shop. One large bag was overflowing with sandwiches, filled rolls, loaves of gluten free sourdough, and who knows what else. Firstly, how can you countenance such flagrant waste of perfectly good food? Secondly, this behaviour attracts rats, foxes and god knows what else into our street. You need to get your house in order, and fast.

I love Gail’s and regularly visit Gail’s Dulwich Village but was so disappointed on visiting Gail’s East Dulwich on 23rd March . I ordered baked eggs and toast but was told that the man who did the cooking was on a break so it was unavailable .I ordered a quiche instead ! There were four other employees chatting behind the counter . I went to find a table and the only one available was covered in food etc as was the floor beneath the table . I went to the counter to ask if it could be cleared ? Two employees looked surprised that I had asked ! Eventually someone came to clear the up by which time I had found another table . I also visited the toilet , the hand drier was out of order and there were no hands towels so there was no way to dry my hands . I returned to my table and observed an employee carrying a tray barge past a woman with a baby in a pushchair and also a toddler . Today I did not meet a Gail’s employee that showed respect for customers, I observed employees that seemed to be put out by customers being there ! I will not return to Gail’s...

I just came to get hot chocolate and to enjoy a croissant almond.

I got bread before leaving the store, I asked the main manger to slice my bread and it seems that is always a problem to ask to slice your bread a specially when I come usually 30 minutes before they close the shop and it's not the first time it happened, but so occasionally before the store closed before 1 hour. It's like the the machine is broken down or sorry we are closing soon... weird? No?

Also the atmosphere of the staff looks a bit rude specially if you ask them a service, they replied in away if its a bit to much to asks..?

For example the store in blackheath village seems so polite so professional the way they satisfy their local clients.

I leave just few steps from my house to this store ( Gail's) but it is a shame the way the staff act like this , it shouldn't happen.

It's very sad because I am so proud of my local area in Dulwich village

I am pretty sure they have been so many complaints about the staff not making the effort just to be little more polite and...
