We visited after hours walking around Highgate Cemetery (100% recommend) and were in desperate need of a sit down and a coffee. We arrived an hour before they closed but were surprised that there was no food / bakery available - not even in the fridge. The team were obviously closing down. We ordered a coffee and sat down - my partner visited the loo which locked behind him and he couldn't get out. I asked one of the team behind the counter if it was possible to open the door for him to which she replied "he shouldn't have done that, why didn't he read the sign?! The lock is broken! There's a sign right there!!" - I said I appreciate that but at this moment can we just open the door for him. She told me to wait a minute and she would do it. The coffee we ordered was nice, but as we were sitting next to the counter which was being cleaned, the spray they were using was going all over us and smelled of strong chemicals. The same woman who helped us with the toilet was loudly cleaning and spraying all of the coffee machines and talking to another colleague across the counter about "Just think, we'll be done soon and we're both off tomorrow, thank god!!" Not the best Gales environment I've ever...
Read moreI am deeply disappointed with the rude and dismissive behaviour of the staff at Gail’s Bakery Highgate. When we ordered a matcha latte and two cakes to eat in, the cakes were handed to us in bags, which was confusing. I politely asked for plates and was met with disdain by the server, Nicoleta, who abruptly placed the plates on the counter instead of handing them to me. Her dismissive attitude continued when my friend requested cutlery and was refused because we hadn’t “specified” we were eating in—something we were never asked about during the order. This unpleasant interaction completely ruined our experience. When I calmly raised the issue before leaving, there was no apology, just an offer of a refund, which I declined as it wasn’t about the money. Gail’s should work on training their staff in basic courtesy and...
Read moreNo thanks Gail. Your bread looks amazing as ever. Your staff and service is now more of a middle of the road fastfood. Scale back and pay attention. I need sugar in my tea. If the waiter makes a trip to my table with coffee and tea, it would make sense that they bring sugar along, or offer it at least. I don't want to have to ask every time, then wait, like it's an add-on. DO NOT, please for the love of god, do not put that little milk jar inside my tea cup. It's NOT clean on the bottom, and you're putting it inside my tea cup. What genius though of that? Please clean your dishes and utensils right. No need to explain what that means. Please mark your salt and pepper grinders clearly and make them available throughout. Please have a dog bowl outside. This is Highgate High Street. Do it...
