In the past, I have ordered and enjoyed the seeded sourdough as part of my larger takeaway order. Today was no exception. This time, I had a sit down breakfast with a chai latte and potato cake with fried egg with smoked salmon. The smoked salmon is always fresh in my experience with previous savoury pastries. The chai latte was warm, not hot, although tasty. The potato cake lacked flavour and texture; it could have used more salt and tasted more like a mush patty and the egg was bland and fried in a way that made it dry.
I arrived at 7 am. Scones, croissants, and breads were available at this time. As it turns out the savoury pastries become available as the day unfolded. I was greeted most impolitely by the owner as it turns out. The staff was polite and courteous. When I asked when the remaining pastries would be available, the owner barked at me that this is what is available. I kindly asked her when the savoury options would become available and her tone remained the same as she scolded that they are available as of 9 am. I meekly said that I was just asking. The quaint environment of the bakery, and beautifully lined display of fresh baked goods was unfortunately made sour by my interaction with the owner.
On selecting my takeout items and taking my breakfast order, I asked the staff whether the owner is in the store at times and she gently pointed out the owner was the same woman I was greeted in a less than welcoming tone.
While the staff were more than cordial and polite, they all seemed unhappy. If it is at all a reflection of management and their work environment, I could relate.
My colleagues and I frequent this bakery when we are in town for business. I am more inclined to lend my business...
Read moreApproximately 3 months ago I visited Gail’s at St John’s Wood London in order to carry out routine maintenance on some kitchen equipment.Due to an issue with this machine there was a fair amount of water behind the shop counter -so the baker decided to use a metal handled mop to mop the water up .Suddenly the baker became attached to the mop handle and he simply couldn’t move whilst he was being electrocuted. No one went to his assistance including the manager and I had no choice other than to take over and stop this baker dying .I shut down the mains power supply and immediately the emergency lights came on .I helped the baker to get to a shop bench seat and after giving him a quick check over I disconnected the faulty chiller from the socket .it transpired the cable had an inch of unsheaved cable (bare wire) which caused the baker to be electrocuted when the mop was moved across the cable .The manager was clearly in shock and asked me to stay and ensure everything was sorted out before I left .Today despite risking my life to save the baker and saving Gail’s at least a £5000000 fine if the baker had died I haven’t even received a thank you let alone anything else .I’ve contacted Marta who is very senior at Gail’s and after speaking to her she banned me from All Gail’s shops despite what I did to save the baker ..I am now suffering from issues relating to this incident yet Gail’s aren’t interested.I fully intend to go to a national newspaper over this incident and will almost certainly sue Gail’s .They are an appalling uncaring company which we should all avoid...
Read moreDirty and badly organised place. The girl that made us a tea and a coffee gave us filthy cups. When I politely asked for another one, she said it was just stained (but it was dirty with previous coffee or tea marks), she then slapped the dirty one back on top of the coffee machine (probably she will give it to the next customer). Then, she took another one and with the nails she tried to remove probably another stain from the inside (that was disgusting) and after doing that she gave it to me!!! Of course I told her to please give me another one as she has inserted her fingers and removed something with her nails (this is totally unhygienic in my opinion). She said again that it was just stained but luckily she gave me a third one which looked a bit better. On top of that, despite of my thank you, she turned around completely ignoring me.
I've been to a number of Gail's Bakery and have never felt so let down. The tables and floor were full of left over dirty dishes, crumbs and napkins from previous customers.
The pictures attached show how dirty everything was! There were even cobwebs and spiders!! Totally unhygienic!
Won't be coming back! I’m very...
