The Duke Of York in St. John's Wood seems to be a nice random pub. I have been there once so far, but passed by several times. Sometimes the place around the pub looked very crowded. I was there on a Saturday evening and found a place immediately. In general, it was quite noisy in the pub, but then: it's a pub. That's how it should be, isn't it? Some guests are louder than others, some music is playing. so far as usual as any other pub.
I ordered a beef burger with extra bacon and extra cheese, and it took ages. I did not mind, but the staff did. They came over to me and explained, that something went wrong when preparing the burger, that never happened before (that always sounds suspicious!) and they even offered my another glass of wine for free. But as I still had some wine left and did not want to drink a lot this night, I didn't go for it. But I enjoyed the Neblina Merlot I've chosen. It's a nice red wine. When my burger arrived, I realized that it was worth waiting! Normally, I order burgers well-done. For some reason, I guess mainly because of plain stupidity, I ordered this medium-well. And it tasted great! This burger truly was very tasty.
The also have different offers on different days, so one day a week they also have special burger offerings. That sounds good.
The burger came with really good chips, that were sort of chunky, but not too big. so I was happy with it.
As dessert I took a chocolate mousse. It tasted okay, but by far not as good as the burger. But okay.
If you're up for a burger and around St. John's Wood, this is a good place you for you.
The only annoying thing about this pub: the Flash website is just crap. First, Flash websites are very nineties. Second contact form either does not work, or is just stupid. But as long as you're there for a burger and not for the website,...

The Duke of York is located at the end of upscale St Johnâs Wood High Street, this NW8 watering hole is a pleasant five minute amble from St Johnâs Wood Station. . This pub was established in 1826 and has been a focal point of this local well healed community for some time. . The decor here is contemporary and stylish and the pub feels bright and airy. There are lots of low level seating as well as standing room at the bar. There is also outdoor seating around the front of the pub if you fancy a bit of people watching in the warmer months. . The beer choice was good, there is a line up of familiar brands but I didnât notice any real ale. I decided on a Moretti, my pint was nice enough but this is the most Iâve ever paid for a Moretti, ÂŁ7 ouch! This pub also offers an A La Carte food menu. . I visited with my family on the way to see The Hundred cricket final at Lords. The pub was busy with the majority of punters outside lapping up the September sunshine. There was a real buzz around the place, the location of the pub makes for a fantastic environment. . The @dukeofyork_stjohnswood is a lovely boozer in a great location. The ambiance is really appealing and this is an easy pub to settle in to. The price point is at the top end which reflects the area but similar pubs in similar areas charge less. Would I recommend a visit here, absolutely! . âčïž Info correct on...
Read moreVery bad experience! The pub is advertised as âdog friendlyâ, however the friendliness is limited to allowing dogs in. So for all dogs owners- I would suggest to avoid this place. Firstly, when you are bringing a dog, you must seat next to the door (no idea why?!). Secondly the dog is not allowed on the sofa, apparently due to health and safety reasons, which is absolutely ridiculous as the place clearly doesnât care about health and safety (an example of that is the hand dryer covered in mould in the ladies toilet- disgusting). Lastly since we were seated next to the door, my dog barked for no longer than 30 seconds, this prompted the bar manager to come to me and ask to calm the dog down. I wonder if he would behave the same if there was a screaming baby or drunk people laughing loud??? In addition to all this the food was simply terrible. Pulled pork burger consisted in 70% of onion and itâs really difficult to mess up nachos- yet this pub managed to screw up even such a simple thing, cheese wasnât melted, greasy chips served with the cheapest dips. All...
