Good selection of beers, which are excellent (I had two different keg ones & also tried my husband's cask beer).
However, the experience was tainted by two things: I was asked if I was sure if I wanted a "stouty-thing" when I ordered a beer. Although I had drunk a different kind of beer before that, I'm not sure the language "stouty-thing" would have been used if I were a man (even if the language "nitro stout" had been used to check I knew what I was ordering - I did! - it would have felt less patronising...)
a regular's dog was allowed to wander around without a lead on. Seemed a good-natured dog, but that's not really the point. We had our dog on a lead under the table with a chew, which the other dog clearly had their eyes set on (as dogs often do when in range of something tasty, so not the dog's fault!). It took too long for the owner to call their dog away, & keep their dog away. Although our dog wouldn't have been visible (as he was under the table & we were on the other side of the pub to the owner), the other dog had returned to our table a number of times...
Why didn't I speak to the owner? Well, it wasn't just him who was OK with his dog wandering. He was in a group (albeit a small one), and was very friendly with the staff, who were also fine with the wandering dog - so I quite simply didn't feel that was...
Read moreUnfortunately I'm gonna have to downgrade this, a regular (backed by the pub) allowed his dog to A lie in the door as its carpeted, no-one could get in or out, then B, he allowed his dog to threaten our dog, not cool, dog friendly is fantastic but allowed bullying is not good. Yes I get pandering to the locals, but how will your patronage grow, this will lead to a greater imbalance of service. We will not be bringing our dog back, which in turn will lead to us to not return, why didn't it get 0 stars, because the beers...
Read moreThis is a very good micropub and whilst on first glance at the walls, it looks like there is too much to choose from, there is in fact just some beers to choose from. Although its still quite a lot. Anyway, the beers are very good and there's lots of different styles to choose from. We chose a DDH IPA, which stands for double dry hopped India pale ale and it was delicious, followed by a mango cider that tasted like tropical Fanta. Really looking forward...
