Please read my review before visiting as I hope this will help you enjoy your experience.
This was our first visit to the ship after reading good reviews online. The main pub bar area and main dining area are very nice and cosy, with a lovely atmosphere. We booked a table for eight people. Unfortunately, we were not seated in the main dining area. There is a smaller dining area behind the bar which is where our table was. This area has no atmosphere and is right next to the door to the garden and smoking area and the kitchen. The day we visited was freezing cold outside and a gale was blowing through the old wooden door especially with people coming in and out, so it was a bit nippy. I mentioned this to the waitress and she was very, very helpful and arranged for an extra heater to be brought in. So a five star for atmosphere in the main pub, and for their service. However, I personally found the food very average and nothing special. I was hoping for more going by the reviews but I found the menu fairly basic and the quality and taste of the food very standard, not bad just very average.
If you're going to visit the ship, I would definitely recommend booking a table in the main restaurant only and confirm that with your...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at The Ship in Gidea Park, and I can't recommend it highly enough! We visited on a Sunday and were thoroughly impressed with every aspect of our experience.
The food was absolutely fantastic. We only had mains, but they were delicious and perfectly prepared. It's clear that the chefs take great pride in their work, as every dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented.
The service was equally outstanding. A special shoutout to Sarah, who went above and beyond to ensure our visit was enjoyable. She was attentive, friendly, and incredibly patient with our children, who can be quite a handful at times.
The cozy, welcoming atmosphere of The Ship made us feel right at home. We can't wait to return on a weekday to explore the other menu options. If you're looking for a great pub in Gidea Park with excellent food and service (and a nice beer garden), The Ship is definitely the...
Read moreAn excellent traditional pub with a great atmosphere, great beer and an imaginative menu, pretty much the complete package. The Ship is in many respects the archetype old English country pub, low (genuine) wooden beamed ceilings with blazing log fires in huge inglenook fireplaces, but conveniently situated only three bus stops from the centre of Romford. Cask ales include Timothy Taylors and a wide range of bottled beers. The food on offer includes some usual pub staples, but is sprinked with more original dishes such as a scallops, bacon and black pudding salad, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Service was attentive and rapid, so highly...
