I didn't know it was possible to have such a disappointing meal/experience.
I am a lover of eating out and think it's reasonable to pay around £30 for two for a decent brunch. But having paid over £33 for two plates of dreadful "food" and two cold drinks (we did order three drinks but the server was so over run it never came)
My dish was literally two deep fried frozen birdseye potato waffles with cold, unseasoned poached eggs, and sour tasting avocado mush for £9.90?!
My husbands meal was even worse. He ordered the "Poached Special" - which doesn't come with poached eggs, they are fried? Imagine if you went to Mcdonald's and purchased a sausage and egg Mcmuffin for £1, then deep fried one slice of bacon to a crisp on the side, burned the bottom of the sausage pattie (which was the size of a 2p coin) then quatered a piece of american burger cheese and slammed two unseasoned eggs on top to hide the mess. That was what they fed my husband - for £10.30!
Whoever owns this place really needs to spend more time there and put some effort into the menu. Leaving young kids running it then charging through the nose for poorly executed, over priced dishes is not going to keep you in business. The only staff member doing your place any good was the young guy serving coffee at the front, but he was flustered as hell. The kitchen staff seemed more concerned with piling their own plates with a hearty lunch than anybody else's, they then decided to sit down right next to us to eat together and talk about how much sweat was in the food whilst moaning about too many work hours when so many people recently unemployed in the hospitality industry would kill to be in thier priveliged position.
We won't be back. Really...
Read moreThis was much better when it was Poached. I've eaten here a number of times, before and after the change. The new mgmt and service is not up to the level. Today I was lied and treated like rubbish. I went alone and asked for a table. I was told that there were people waiting for a table for 4, and I just saw a couple sit down 1 second before me in a table for 2. There was another table for 2 about to finish. The waiter told me that if that table for 2 gets free I could sit there, and then I said, Ok I will wait then, can I have a coffee in the meanwhile? The waiter never made that coffee because he probably had another plan already. When the table got free, he changed his mind and went to ask the group of 4 , he said he could ask the couple to move to another table on the other side of the room that was going to get free so then the 4 of them could sit IN A LINE . I get that they make more money from 4 people than 1, but don't lie to me and then tell me "as you see, there is no space for you" I felt cheated and not important at all. I used to be a regular customer of this place, I won't set a foot in there ever again. Everyone is saying that the staff is friendly, and although there are some of them that actually are friendly, this man was just not, he clearly didn't...
Read moreI had one of the best breakfasts in years at Poached. It is a cosy upscale cafe located in the heart of Grave Vale, East Duwlich. The team are ever so friendly and the chemistry between the team self-evident - even as the orders come in they are calm and good humored - exuding charm and ensuring a soothing morning ambiance. The music was Heart/Magic esque with Glenn Maderos and The Commodores playing in the background at a reasonable level that was not too loud. Onto the food - I had the Poached breakfast which had a delicious flavourful Sausage patty, two rashers of bacon - two eggs, super fresh and the most perfectly colored yolks. These were accompanied by potato waffles and a soft buttered muffin. As an accompanyment I had a flat white which was by a considerable way the best coffee I have had in London so far. Well done to the team at Poached - amazing to have such an appealing breakfast option at the end of our road. It will be a regular breakfast location for...
