We hired the function room in the pub (for free!) for a 40th birthday party on a Saturday. The Saturday in question was quite busy with several other celebrations going on in the pub at the same time. But if anything this just added to the wonderfulness of the day and created an amazing atmosphere. Please pass on my thanks to the D Day celebration organisers. The kids thought the 'olden day toys' and 'weighing the food' was fantastic! The room itself was a perfect space and kids were welcome until 8:30pm which was great. Jordan and Ryan (and all the other staff) were fantastic making sure everything was okay and running smoothly. Despite the busyness the amazing buffet (that Jordan had helped arrange for us the week before) came out on time and was lovely. I highly reccomend the potato cake!! And we also had use of a screen where we were able to set up a games console. Overall a really fantastic day in an incredibly family friendly pub! Thank you Jordan and Ryan for being so helpful and making sure the day went well!!!

Genuinely nasty food, burnt and dry..., cook ain't up to it, horrid... Picture is of the aftermath of repulsive, uneatable Yorkshire puddings..., proof in the pictures, undeniable. Given both of those were beef and Yorkshire pudding Sunday roasts, how can they justify this horrid stuff. Also noted, sausage rolls on bar uncovered to buy, watch out for feces and urine or fly eggs... Yuck. It's not as advertised and in these times where anything cooked for you is a treat you would have felt really mugged off, Pete please investigate and sort this out this does you no favours and frankly in Penge the only real other place is Antonella's (brilliant), that has way more trade than you and produces excellent Sunday roasts (chicken, lamb, beef and pork) and is fiver cheaper a head!, are tasty and cooked by a real Italian with passion for food.

I love this pub. The building has a lovely run down charm about it inside and out, the staff are very accommodating and the beer is well kept. With a huge garden out the back there’s plenty of space for everyone to enjoy their visit safely whilst we’re still not allowed inside the pub. The food has improved since I have been visiting and I wouldn’t hesitate to come for a light bite or informal dinner it’s just good food, well prepared and not overpriced like so many other pubs in London. A few of the negative reviews on here are due to very specific personal tastes, so if you don’t have sky high standards and just want a friendly pub to visit with your mates then you can’t go far wrong with the Goldsmiths Arms.

SUMMARY: A sunny garden, but nothing else to tempt us back. // Having read on the pub's Facebook page that it was open from noon on Fridays, yesterday (Friday) we went to the pub about 3.15pm. Workmen were working on planters at the front of the pub, and we were told by one of the pub staff that the pub opens at 4. I mentioned they need to update the timings for Fridays on their Facebook page (not done yet). // We went back at 4, and found several other people waiting outside, and waited about 10-15 minutes for the doors to open. // When I ordered a couple of drinks I was told that there were no bar snacks at all available!: crisps, nuts, sausage rolls (which they'd posted would be available on their Facebook page on 3 April). // Later ordered a couple of portions of the Koffman chips: one ordinary (£3.50), the other with truffle & Parmesan (£4.75). The portions were small, the chips were fries, and we couldn't see or taste any truffle on the fries, and the Parmesan was very very lightly sprinkled. // I had a pint of the Jamboree Golden Ale (4.8%), a bland brew designed for the lager drinkers which doesn't live up to its brewer's description: "An all-English golden ale, hopped with Bramling Cross to impart berry notes and lovingly made with a blend of lager, pale and wheat malt for a smooth, refreshing mouthfeel." // We sat in the sunny beer garden, which very quickly became lively and busy, mostly with young parents with their babies and young children running around. We moved inside about 6.30 when it became cooler, and were surprised there were only several other customers, it being a Friday night. It was only a little warmer inside, so we finished our...

We are locals to the pub and booked the private function room for a baby shower.

Staff and service: we had the pleasure of dealing with Ryan and Jordan and they were both absolutely brilliant. They were clear and helpful in helping us plan the day so it ran smoothly and they were extremely accommodating to our requests. On the day Jordan was very helpful and after setting up the room checked in with us regularly to make sure everything was going smoothly which felt very reassuring.

Food: The food was served on time without complication and the staff made sure to double check when we wanted it and were super flexible with timings. The portion sizes were really generous and we had enough to send the guests home with some food which was lovely. The food itself was really delicious and a huge hit with the guests. They also very kindly allowed us to keep our cake in the fridge and helped with service!

General: overall we are so glad we chose the goldsmith arms. The warmth and dedication of the staff made sure the event went well without a hitch. Great from start to finish!

Thank you Ryan...
