I was GAGged by my recent trip to Good As Gold. The staff were warm, welcoming, and suitably trendy for a saturday morning oat iced latte in the zone 2/3 borderlands. A lively debate erupted at my table over whether the cafe gave more of a Berlin or Copenhagen vibe (insufferable i know). This question was answered by our waitress who informed us it was Copenhagen because "everyone is fresh faced and they make their food from scratch". Good as Gold to know. My beverage buddies had some different drink choices. One had a delightfully delectable detoxifying Apple Cucumber and mint press. Which he described as "quite nice but a bit cucumbery". The other Magnificently milky Matcha which she described as "a bit earthy actually but in a good way". My own Oat milk ice latte performed the role i required for my mind body and soul, leaving me with a glowing smile and positive outlook for the whole morning. There's exposed pipes on the ceilings, don't come in here if you have a nervous disposition around such things.

This place has always been one of my favorite spots in Brockley, and I’ve had many lovely experiences here over the years. That’s why I was quite surprised during my last visit a month ago, when something felt a little off.

A new female staff member seemed to overlook our table—we waited for about 30 minutes before receiving menus, while guests who arrived after us were served promptly. At first, I thought it might’ve just been a busy moment, but as it continued, it started to feel a bit uncomfortable.

Eventually, a familiar staff member kindly stepped in and helped us. She also waived the service charge, which we appreciated.

As someone of Asian background, I can’t help but wonder if that may have played a role in how we were treated. I truly hope that’s not the case, and that it was simply an unfortunate oversight. Still, the experience left us feeling quite disheartened, and we’ve decided not to return—for now, at least. It’s a real shame, as this place once brought me so...

I usually pop in on my way into work, and while the drinks and snacks are good (blummin expensive though), the service is really not up to scratch. I've found myself waiting patiently for ages, while the staff either avoid eye contact with you or smile at you but continue to ignore you. When you're stood there with a reusable take away cup in hand, a sizable queue forming, it can be really frustrating watching the staff just amble. If they at least took down your order so you could wait out of the way, I would feel a little less ignored and confident that I'll actually get served before I have to be at work! I think I'd say it's a bit style over substance. Sorry folks. But having said that, the style is great! It looks super smart. I just wish the staff took a bit more care over the...
