I dont think Gordon would approve. 1400-1500 Sunday. £ cover charge (?! What?! Seriously?!) £ "optional" gratuity, not optional, its automatically added.
I purchased a cocktail, fish n chips, water. Slow / absent service after 1st "drive by".
Mass confusion at the front, no one seemed to be in charge of seating, and seversl people just walked by the attendant.
The tartar sauce, looked like whipped plain yogurt, but was tasteless, lets call it mayonaise, but Im not sure it qualified as such. The tasteless white creamy glob had a few bits of "pickled" onion or maybe minced pickles floating around it, but otherwise was completely tasteless.
The chips were good, fried golden, crisp enough, grease flavor was good.
The fish appeared like a giant american-sizes slab of fish, with a lot of skin, thankfully served skin-side down. I saw a waitress a moment after I sat down (to order a drink) and moments later to deliver the drink and order fish n chips and water. A male delivered the latter. Ive not seen either for 30min, till domeone whidked away my plate. The fish besides being gigantic, was forgetable, in a thick greasy, fried, breading which I cut off. The remaining fish was mostly eaten. The mushy peas were green... not mych else to say.
Its been a total of 45min now with no other waitsaff coming by. My plate is gone, my cocktail is empty, my water is half empty.
I mentioned to the initial waitress that I anticipated ordering dessert... but no one has come by to ask... or ask if I was ready for my bill, even.
55min in and finally ordered sticky toffee pudding and take away coffee. The dessert a arrived 1hr and 5min after I was initially seated. It was a square slice, and an ice riddled scoop of forgettable vanilla ice cream. I requested my bill.
5min later my small macchiato arrived on a "drive by", and the waiter asked over his shoulder if I wanted white or sugar... i declined and just asked for the bill, again.
They billed me £1.50 cover charge AND 15% "optional" gratuity... totaling 17.5% of my total bill.
Chef Ramsey, please rescue your name sake... both the...

He shoved a menu in my hand which i didn’t ask for or need as i wanted to dine in and we had an awkward pause before i asked him if I could sit down, it was almost as if he only wanted to me order for takeaway which isn’t a pleasant feeling as I feel assumptions were made off of my appearance whatever they were, albeit negative hence the different treatment. Also forcing people to order of the app for the prices charged here is not justified and should be optional, not everyone is able to do is. The other male member of staff with long hair also seems to suffer from an overinflated ego and was quite hostile when asked by a diner next to me if he could order manually. Mainly the staff directing people to tables seem to have attitude problems and treat people differently possibly depending on how much you may spend it seems how you are dressed from what I can tell. The arrogance displayed by staff doesn’t match up with how good the food actually is, the atmosphere or anything else for the matter with only the prices being on par with the subtle disrespect you will get here. Also why not present the food same/similar as in the display picture when ordering? Clearly not the same portion sizes. If Gordon Ramsay himself came here and ordered he would be impressed by the arrogant atmosphere displayed. Overall was not happy with the service, staff and overall...
Read moreI’ve been to Plane Food a couple of times before. I had a positive first impression some years ago, followed by a mediocre experience the next time around, which was still quite a while ago. With other options in Terminal 5 lacking I decided to make a third visit.
You have the option of ordering via QR code or opting for table service. I tried QR code and the tech worked efficiently. I ordered the Buffalo chicken burger which came with fries, plus a side of creamed spinach. The burger was seasoned well enough but was soggy rather than crispy. For a fried chicken burger to have no crisp, I imagine it must have been pre cooked and then reheated. The fries were fine. The spinach was disappointing, basically coming in the form of steamed spinach in a liquid / watery cream.
Service was awful! They were definitely understaffed. I was thankful for the QR code option which allowed me to put orders in independently. Some items were delivered efficiently while others took ages, most notably a macchiato at the end of my meal which took over 15 minutes to arrive. The main issue was getting the attention of staff - this was a real challenge, even for little things like asking for some tap water or some mayo for my chips. In a normal restaurant this would be frustrating but in an airport where people are naturally time constrained - it was just shocking to see such a disorganised operation.
I paid £75 for my meal of which £43 was spent on drinks. Paid through the QR code there was no option to challenge the punchy 15% service charge, and no way was I willing to face another extended delay to flag down someone. In summary - mediocre food and very poor service at elevated prices. I’m heading back to Giraffe on my next...
