Grand Rasoi is a delightful culinary gem that offers a unique buffet experience, showcasing a rich variety of flavours from the Bangladeshi 🇧🇩 cuisine, especially the distinct culinary traditions of Sylhet. The restaurant excels in providing a wide array of dishes that cater to diverse tastes, making it an ideal spot for both adventurous eaters and those who appreciate traditional fare.
Upon entering Grand Rasoi, you are immediately struck by the bright and welcoming interior. The decor is modern yet infused with cultural elements that reflect the rich heritage of the cuisine. The air conditioning provides a comfortable atmosphere, allowing you to enjoy your meal in a relaxed setting.
The buffet spread is impressive, featuring a broad selection of starters that range from crispy, fried delights to more exotic choices like the popular “Bhorta” – a mashed dish that comes in various flavours and is a staple in Bangladeshi homes. A highlight for those interested in authentic Sylheti cuisine is the Meat with Hathkora and Naga Chicken. Hathkora, a citrus fruit unique to Sylheti cuisine, imparts a distinctive tangy flavour to the meat, making it a must-try for those seeking an authentic taste of Sylhet. The Naga Chicken, known for its fiery heat, is another staple dish that showcases the bold flavours typical of this region.
The main course options are equally varied, offering a selection of Chicken, Meat, and Fish Curries, each prepared with distinct spices and techniques that highlight the complexity of South Asian cooking. The Fish Egg "Tengha," a tangy and spicy dish, stands out as a speciality, bringing a unique taste that is both bold and refreshing. For those with a penchant for street food, the restaurant provides an authentic experience with their Bangladeshi-style street foods, allowing diners to savour the flavours of Sylhet right in the heart of the city. The dessert section is not to be missed either, offering a range of traditional sweets that are the perfect end to the meal.
One of the standout features of Grand Rasoi is the exceptional service. The staff are not only helpful and friendly but also attentive, ensuring that your dining experience is pleasant from start to finish. The buffet service is well-organised, and a particularly thoughtful touch is the complimentary drinking water, which many other restaurants tend to charge for. Although ice cream and special seasonal drinks are available, these are not included in the buffet, which is something to keep in mind if you have a sweet tooth or wish to try one of their unique beverages.
In terms of pricing, Grand Rasoi offers a reasonable pricing structure that provides excellent value for money. Considering the wide variety of dishes and the quality of the food, the buffet is competitively priced, making it an attractive option for diners looking to enjoy a hearty meal without breaking the bank. Additionally, the items on the buffet are clearly labelled, which makes it easy for guests to identify and choose their preferred dishes, especially for those with dietary restrictions or specific preferences. This thoughtful approach enhances the overall dining experience, ensuring that everyone can enjoy their meal with ease and confidence.
While Grand Rasoi offers an exceptional dining experience, it does have some limitations in terms of accessibility as the restaurant is not fully accessible. One of the few downsides to dining at Grand Rasoi is the parking situation. This minor inconvenience, however, is a small trade-off for the exceptional dining experience that awaits inside.
In summary, Grand Rasoi offers an excellent buffet experience that is both varied and satisfying, set in a bright, welcoming environment. With its friendly staff, air-conditioned comfort, diverse menu—including the unique Sylheti dishes—and reasonable pricing, it is a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the rich flavours of Sylhet and...
Read moreUnfortunately a bad experience here!!! Zero allergy training/awareness and actually gives out dangerous info, terrible organisation and management
Attended a party hosted by family here. My daughter has food allergies so I always call ahead to places to speak about options or to arrange bringing food from home. I called the day before, asked if I could speak to someone about my daughter who has allergies. I explained about her dairy/nut allergies and asked if there was anything suitable she could eat. The guy said yes apart from 3 items she could eat everything else. Okay.....so I asked if they use ghee in the curries. Oh yes we use ghee to cook all the curries, but it's only a little amount.
??????
I said no, a little amount is not OK, she can't eat anything with dairy in it and ghee is dairy. Then he said all the starters are fine: wings, tikka etc. Are they marinated with yoghurt? Yes they have yoghurt in it. Then told the samosas and fries "should be fine" but when asked they're not made from scratch in house so again he didn't actually know the ingredients.
By this point I've gone from patient to very frustrated and annoyed - I explained that he's been telling me all these foods are fine, and if I had fed my daughter the foods he recommended she would have had a reaction to everything. Then he finally said "I can see this is important to you" and suggested food from outsidr
I finally asked if there was any way they could prepare something separately like some grilled wings with fries so my daughter could have a meal with us and he shut it down immediately without checking with the chef or considering what was possible.
Totally ridiculous conversation, not only NO allergy training or awareness, but actually his misinformed suggestions literally all contained allergens in when questioned. "A little ghee" is not OK!!
The day of the event we were a large prebooked party, they knew they were going to be busy. The kitchen exit right in the middle of the buffet line so staff constantly walking around and through guests (including around babies) with large heavy vats of hot food. Asked for ketchup for my child FOUR times but not a single person bothered to source any, two staff members said the bottle was on the shelf and when I said it's not there, they just walked off??? A third member literally looked at me and didn't respond, literally ignored me and walked off somewhere else. ??????
Customer service skills abysmal, allergy advice lacking and actually dangerous. You could have killed my child with your recommendations.
Do not...
