Original Fried Chicken has been my spot for as long as I can remember—since my teenage days, in fact. Whenever I’m in the mood for a proper doner kebab chopped up with onions, spice, daniya, and green chilli, this is the place to go. Just thinking about it now at 9:10 in the morning has me mouthwatering.
Over the years, the place has changed a bit, but one thing that stands out is how clean it is compared to other places in the area. I’ve been to some spots where I’d seriously worry if I’d end up in A&E with food poisoning, but not here. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not some 5-star fancy place, but when you’re after a proper munch, it does the job every single time.
There are loads of new burger joints and other food spots popping up all over East London, but this one’s always been the most reliable. I go with my friends, my family, and sometimes just by myself when I want a quick bite. Their biryani, by the way, is one of the best I’ve had—hands down. The food is always spot on, orders are never wrong, and the service is proper.
I love how you can see the staff working in the open kitchen. There’s this one humble brother on the counter in the evenings who always calls you “borobai,” showing so much respect. No matter how busy they are, he’s always smiling, and it just makes the experience even better.
I also respect how they’ve started stocking non-you-know-what drinks, and now, stocking the likes of Salaam Cola and other halal and non zio options. It’s nice to see a place sticking to principles like that, especially when a lot of others around haven’t bothered.
Even the small details stand out. The tables are clean, no grime or grease—believe me, I’ve checked with an antiseptic wipe. The toilets? Clean enough to use without worrying about dodgy drain smells. That’s a big deal for a lot of places around here where cleanliness can be hit or miss.
The only downside is the parking. If you’re driving, you’ll need to watch out for bus lane timings and restrictions, especially during the 4–7 PM slot. It’s open late, though—until 2 AM, I think—and no matter what time you go, they’re happy to serve.
Yes, it’s gotten a bit pricier, but so has everything else with inflation. For me, it’s still worth the trip every now and then, even though I don’t live nearby. Original Fried Chicken is still my go-to spot, and I doubt that’s going to change...

Back in the day, from '94 to '09, I used to live round the corner and go to this place multiple times every week and I never once got bored of the food. Everything on the menu is banging, from the chicken, the hot wings, the kebabs done on the hot plate, to the curries and biriyanis.
More of a community centre than a restaurant and a great place to eat in as well as to take away, with polite and fast table service provided. Prices are reasonable as they always have been. The food is always fresh since they are always busy and a lot of dishes are made to order. Run by great owners, lovely people.
Even better, they used to close at 3am weekdays and at 4am on Fridays and Saturdays, when the queue would be split 50/50 between locals and smashed Queen Mary and Westfield students, which was always fun and games. I had a few rows in here, granted, but the beautiful thing about this place is they never barred me.
Better than any other PFC in London, let alone Tower Hamlets where there are a million other PFC franchises and imitators on every corner. The chilli sauce is fire and the best out there, but all in all, this is the best chicken shop in...
Read moreI’ve been eating at this legendary fast-food joint since my early teens. Whenever I’m in the local area, I need to indulge in some food from here. They offer a variety of different meals, ranging from chicken burgers, spicy wings to even more mainstream south Asian dishes, such as lamb chops and biryani. The overall quality of their food cannot be compared to. It’s always fresh, portion sizes are very generous and the overall price to quality ratio is excellent. The food tastes really fresh and is always piping hot. The hot wings are one of my favourite. The place has a nice ambience to it and a general sense of a tight knit community feel. The restaurant is located within very close proximity to the underground, which has always made it very convenient for me to come. They are opened until very late but the food consistently remains fresh.
The superstar of this place is the manager, Arif. He is a real asset to this business. Arif has excellent customer service skills: he’s always very friendly and helpful. When you have great staff, such as Arif, you want to come back even more. Any customer who walks in will usually be served by him and it’s always a positive experience. Thanks Arif!
I’d recommend anyone visiting this area to check out PFC. A true og in the east...
