I often visit the GReat Bakery to buy some of their authentically Greek produce like cheese yogurt and the flat pocket less pita bread. They also do a great homemade taramasalata with no food colouring. You can taste the difference. As well as all the usual teas and coffees, they also have both Greek coffee and frappé coffee on the menu. I've had frappé in London before, and always disappointed with it. At the GReat, if you ask for an authentic Greek frappé, that is exactly what you will get. Their cakes are moist and full of flavour, would recommend the orange cake or the walnut cake. They also have the traditional filo pastry sweets. They have a good selection of savoury pastries and if you're early enough a selection of bread before it sells out. They are now renovating the shop to make more space inside for tables and produce. All round I would say that they deliver the best of Greece right here in the city of London. If you want more, you can visit their restaurant across the street. Where as well as giro, they also do souvlski and the famous souvla. Unlike most kebab shops in London, the Greek also uses pork to make the signature dishes. When you add the friendly service and staff it makes it a must go to shop and then share a souvla with a friend. Would...
Read moreWe have consistently supported this business in the past as loyal customers. Unfortunately, lately there has been a dramatic drop in the quality of the fresh products they sell. This bakery used to be great, but not anymore. Lately they have been consistently serving re-heated pastries which are not baked the same day .Overall, food quality has dropped dramatically. Peinirli, bougatsa and pie products were stale and definitely reheated. They have a good selection of frozen pies to bake at home, however beware as some pittas I got ( 2 packages) they were mouldy and rotten when I opened them at home. I raised this to management's attention and kindly they offered a refund, but that was big questionmark about their hygiene standards. Such a shame cause it used to be a great little bakery, management should strongly reconsider their approach. I would not recommend this bakery...
Read moreEDIT: The items on offer although they have many months if not years of bookshelf life, they were actually expiring imminently, however there was no mention of this important information whatsoever. Be careful with their offers!
Nice variety of Greek goods. Advertisement, communication and customer needs improvement though. An advertisement to buy 1 get 1 free was inaccurate and misleading and the situation was handled poorly. The price tag on the item was £2.30. On the till they asked for £2.50 though, with the excuse that getting one item you will be charged £2.30, but if you want the second ‘free’ you have to spent more. Upon questioning this bad practice and false advertising I was told that I should instead thank them for giving me an item...
