Sadly this was a disappointing visit. Having been a few times with others previously, I was keen to take a friend (New to the area) to this pub and have a drink, bit of food and a catch up.
Unfortunately the two staff members present seemed fairly stressed and quite unfriendly yet it wasn't overly busy.. The atmosphere at the bar from the staff was pretty cold and unwelcoming, it seemed like they were reluctant to serve us and we had to keep asking for basic things like a receipt. Having worked in pubs myself I was surprised at the surly attitude and lack of acknowledgement and this was a stark difference in treatment to the last time I'd visited.
We went to order food ourselves at the bar and the bill added up differently to the menu and when we queried this, the staff said oh its an optional service charge on top. So for principle we asked for this to be removed because a) we feel this is a really underhanded way of doing business, putting in additional unseen costs and then removing them on request. b) green goose is a pub, c) we ordered at the bar and didn't receive "service."
When the food arrived - roast dinners at £19.50 per person which is a lot for Bow - unfortunately they seemed overly salted and the Yorkshires were rock solid almost burned. We discovered the roasts are pre cooked and reheated and this was another disappointment and then made sense as to the quality of the food we'd received. We were asked if everything was ok when a staff member came to collect plates but my friend didn't want me to say anything as she was embarrassed and I didn't want to cause her any upset at her first time so I just said " it was alright" but it wasn't.
Overall based on today's experience unfortunately I wouldn't now return again. Which is a real shame as the pub has a lot going for it, and I try to support my local area especially pubs which are closing left...
Ā Ā Ā Read morešĀ Bow Road šŗĀ Ā£4.80 Amstel ā¤ļø Sunday Sunday, where to go ? What to do? . I visited my daughter over in Bow and she mentioned that she really fancied a roast, after a bit of deliberation we decided to visit the @greengooselondon . Now the pub landscape has massively changed in this area , so the pubs that are left are very different from their fallen neighbours and former selves, namely here previously The Lord Cardigan. No longer do you hear a cackle from āPete the Meatāwho works at Smithfield or a story from āRay the Sprayā who works at the mechanics around the corner, the demographic has changed so much. So what we are left with are a small number of fine establishments that have lovingly maintained the beauty of these buildings, rebuilt or maintained a pubs reputation and kept their doors open to welcome us all in. . The Green Goose is set in a terraced back street not far from Roman road. The pub was packed on this Sunday lunchtime and the atmosphere was great. We sat at our table and ordered our roast and a couple of drinks, the fella who served us was on the ball and personable. The food was excellent and the portions were a good size, even though we were stuffed, we managed to fit in a sticky toffee pudding between us which was also on point. Price wise, the roast was Ā£15 and my pint was under a fiver. The decor here makes it the pub feel very cosy and the exterior is classic victorian pub architecture. . The Green Goose was a great experience and managed to cement the one thought all pubs want you to think about when you leave, will I be back again, well itās a yes from me. . šĀ Information correct on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUnacceptable service. Weāve booked for food and drinks at 8pm for 11 people. We started arriving from 8pm and around 8.30pm we were all sit at the table with our drinks and FOOD MENUS on the tables. At 8.50pm one of us went to ask for food and weāve been informed that the kitchen was closed. I went to speak to the bartender. Iāve told her āIām sorry but we here from 8pm and no one cared to inform us that the kitchen was closing? (At least 5 of them were working at the pub and they clearly knew that we went there to eat + also, can you not see the food menus on the table?!). The answer of the staff member was āBut we cannot go to every table and tell them the kitchen is closedā. 1 - we are talking about a small pub, not a restaurant of 200 seats. 2 - you clearly knew we have booked for food and drinks 3 - we had food menus on the table. The thing the upset me most, itās the cold response from the staff member who clearly didnāt care. She kept says āIām sorry I understandā but she didnāt clearly care at all. I work in hospitality and if the same situation happened to me, I would be TRULY apologetic and I would at least offer something to drink. Nothing, ZERO. Iāve been to Green Goose so many times. We are all locals and we loved Green goose (it was everyoneās favourite spot for our dates too) and we were happy to celebrate our xmas with friends from West London too but the evening was ruined. But it wasnāt much ruined for the fact that the kitchen was closed, but for the emotionless approach of the bar staff who clearly didnāt care to provide a better service or truly...
