We’ve always loved it here but really don’t go to the Grosvenor at the moment. Hubby’s 40th. Went for Sunday lunch at the grosvenor and ended up with pizza at home. They’ve got a new manager. Was absolutely shocking!!! Ended up walking out. Sat down by 2.15 ordered drinks, had starters, half an hour later I went to bar to politely ask where the drinks were and was glared at and told “the bar’s busy” then she sat other people down and gave other tables drinks shortly after and still no sign of ours or acknowledgement so had to go back to bar and get served. then by about almost 3.20 still no mains so asked and was told they’re on way 3.50 I asked again and was told that the chef only received our order just after 3.20. Husband (a bit upset but not rude) asked to speak to a manager as it was all really taking too long (kids had had their mains and desserts already) and was told he needed to say please before the member of staff would get the manager. Then manager came out and was clueless about anything and ordered husband to step away from the bar and couldn’t seem to resolve the issue so we walked out. Had family who’d travelled to be with us for our special occasion so was very upsetting. Thank goodness at least the children had eaten but we be going back there for a while (if ever) . So sad as we loved it before. Hope they sort out their issues as food (if it arrives) is very good. Gutted as it’s a special day we won’t get back update the general manager phoned today (day after above) and was very understanding and lovely. Yesterday it was new assistant manager on duty and a new team. Will give another chance after they’ve settled in. Still disappointed about yesterday but it’s always been good in past so worth another shot...
Read moreAh shame, what happened Grosvenor? Been going here for yonkers. Management changed? Always met by bright & breezy service. With just 2 people waiting at the bar for service, I had to wait 15 whole mins for one of the 3 staff behind the bar to show any inclination that part of their job actually involved serving customers. Why did you not say something, I hear you cry? Oh, but I did. "Is anyone else serving?" I asked the only member of staff who was in earshot. This was my attempt for him to turn to his colleagues of which 1 was living his best life chatting to a mate at the end of the bar, the other, well she had decided emptying every last item from the dishwasher while customers were waiting was of paramount importance. He mumbled, literally mumbled something under his breath and carried on. Argghhh. So I sat down, with my mate, who I had come to see, in the hope's of having a meal and a drink. Still minus drink and forget the meal - in a pub - well, somethings gone arwy. Boy, didn't realise it was this difficult to spend my money. So, I tried again, in a more obvious position. Is it me, I thought? Oh but this time, same guy I spoke to served someone else who arrived at the bar after me. Jeeze, must I do it all. The other 2 still completely elusive to the 'tender' game. My heart sunk. Damn, really liked this place - what happened? Nice manager popped up, complained to her, to be told I should have flagged someone down... hummm perhaps they could just do their jobs, I donno, just a thought. But by that point all was lost, plus my mate received the exact same treatment. Shan't be returning, but I doubt they'd be bothered or even notice anyway. To the lovely Plough for me....
Read moreMy previous (4 star) review below unfortunately has to be changed as this pub is under new management and has gone downhill very steeply!! The staff are still friendly and do their best in more challenging staffing situations but everything else shows that the new owners are looking to exploit rather than serve their customers. The prices have gone up by 10% for a backwater pub putting them on par with a prime location High Street brewery pub and hence making them an even bigger rip-off those pubs! The food and service is worse. I am going to boycott this pub until the prices are reduced and quality improved to previous levels. This might need another change of management or at least them changing their attitude and respecting rather than exploiting their customers. This pub is like a proper local and should be run as such.
My new local is the Old Hat on West Ealing Broadway (Uxbridge Road) just across from the back of the Sainsbury’s. I will review this separately but it’s the opposite of what the Grosvenor has become with a much nicer and bigger beer garden. It’s an Irish pub with plenty of very friendly staff, great food and great beers at below even the old (lower) Grosvenor prices!! They also have daytime offers to 5pm. I may one day go back to the Grosvenor but I’m in no rush as there’s many other great options!!
Original review: Great local pub in the middle of a residential area. Decent food and choice of beers, friendly staff. Bar prices around 10% below rip-off...
